Kim Kardashian and her famous siblings are weighing in on their future with the streamer Hulu after wrapping up season six of their eponymous reality series earlier this month.

Though Disney claimed the series had scored stellar ratings with the premiere of season five in 2024, fans have been vocally turned off by the reality show’s ‘dull’ storylines in the latest season.

But the reality icons are doubling down on their connection with Hulu, as Disney announced plans for a Kardashians spinoff on Tuesday.

Executive VP Rob Mills, the head of Disney’s unscripted unit, revealed that the famous family is developing a new series titled Calabasas Behind The Gates, according to Deadline.

The show, whose title references the upscale LA County city were many of the Kardashian–Jenner clan members live, will also air on Hulu, which is owned by Disney

Mills was joined by stars Khloé Kardashian and Scott Disick to reveal the news at Hulu’s Get Real House event.

According to the Disney executive, Calabasas Behind The Gates will focus on other high-profile denizens of the elite area, which is filled with pricey gated neighborhoods.

He said the show asks, ‘Who are all of these people in the extended lives of the Kardashians?’

So far, it’s unclear if producers have specific stars in mind for the show, or if they’ll follow a more traditional reality series route and find unknowns with enough charisma — and drama — to sustain a show.

The British production company Fulwell73, which produces The Kardashians, will also be taking the lead on the upcoming series.

Family matriarch Kris Jenner and her four daughters — Kim, Kourtney, Khloé, Kylie and Kendall — are all executive producers on the series as well.

Despite the fan revolt against season six of The Kardashians, the series will be back for at least a seventh season.

Hulu previously renewed the show for a sixth and seventh in July 2024, just months after Disney bragged about the solid ratings for season five’s premiere.

However, streaming numbers are only made available when Disney chooses to release them, and the company notably didn’t make the same kind of rapturous announcement this season that it did after the season five premiere.

The show had a rough start to season six when fans wonder why it ‘still exist[s]’ and moaned that ‘absolutely no one asked for this’

Season six got off to a rough start after fans were unmoved by the show’s trailer early this year.

‘Why does this show still exist? It’s the same tired drama, the same shallow storylines, and the same overblown sense of importance. The fact that this garbage is still getting airtime is a testament to how far reality TV has fallen,’ one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Another wrote: ‘Absolutely no one asked for this, or cares.’

Others opined that the show had become ‘dull,’ though some X users were more optimistic about season six.
