The beautiful little beach named the UK's 'best' hidden gem

Importance Score: 35 / 100 🔵

A UK beach has been named the “best” hidden gem in Britain – and you probably won’t have ever heard of it.

Adobe has analysed posts from the r/LandscapePhotography subreddit to find the UK’s best “hidden gems”. In the study, various Scottish Highlands destinations, including the renowned Isle of Skye, were noted as some of the nation’s best landscapes. However, there was another more unfamiliar spot that took the shine, making its number one mark in the top ten destinations that gained high levels of engagement per post.

Located on the western shores of Loch Long is Ardentinny beach. Adobe gave the beautiful spot an impressive 87.6 Hidden Gem score – higher than anywhere else in Scotland.

Describing its hidden gem category, the software company said: “Not every landscape in the UK gets the recognition it deserves. To highlight the country’s lesser known but stunning locations, we created a Hidden Gem Score, a metric that analyses user engagement per photo.”

In response to the photograph of the sandy beach, one person said:”I like the shape of the reflection. It looks like an upside down pyramid.”

Ardentinny beach is the longest on the Cowal Peninsula and is the perfect spot to take in beautiful views of Loch Long. The area is also home to a great variety of wildlife, which can be explored within the small rock pools and exposed seaweed.

Beyond the beach, the village has plenty of walking trails that take visitors up the shoreline and through beautiful woods. An 11-kilometre path leads to Carrick Castle, a 14th-century tower house on the west shore of Loch Goil.

Ardentinny is the perfect destination for nature lovers especially. The Glenfinart Walled Garden is a community garden, with beautiful apple, pear, and plum trees, a fruit and vegetable growing area, a children’s garden, and a sensory reflective garden.

Families and groups can also enjoy a picnic at the pretty space, as it also features a grassed public area for events. As Adobe’s analyse reveals, there are many UK spots that do not get enough recognition, but hopefully more people now will be able to discover the beauty that lies in Ardentinny.
