Wilshere Takes Interim Charge at Norwich Following Thorup Dismissal
Norwich City have announced the departure of head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup, with former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere stepping in to manage the team for the remaining two Championship fixtures of the season. The Canaries have struggled recently, leading to the managerial change.
Thorup Departs Amidst Poor Championship Form
The club’s decision to terminate Thorup’s contract follows a disappointing run of form that has seen Norwich slip to 14th position in the Championship table. The team has only managed two victories in their last 14 league matches, culminating in a 3-1 defeat against Millwall on Easter Monday, marking their fourth loss in the past five games. Thorup, who arrived in May on a three-year agreement, will leave Carrow Road with immediate effect, alongside his assistant manager Glen Riddersholm.
Club Statement on Managerial Change
Sporting director Ben Knapper released a statement regarding the dismissal, saying, “While we initially appointed Johannes with a long-term vision, aligned with our overarching club strategy, recent outcomes and on-field displays have unfortunately necessitated a change in leadership.”
Wilshere to Lead Norwich for Final Matches
Jack Wilshere will now assume responsibility for first-team affairs as interim manager. He will guide Norwich City in their concluding two Championship games as the club assesses its options for a permanent replacement.
West Brom Also Make Managerial Change
In related news from the Championship, West Bromwich Albion also recently dismissed their manager, Tony Mowbray, on Monday, highlighting a period of managerial upheaval within the league as clubs react to end-of-season outcomes.
