The agency announced that the seismic event occurred at approximately 11:20 am local time. Authorities confirmed that the earthquake did not pose a tsunami threat to the region. The epicenter was located 95 kilometers (59 miles) northeast of Melonguane, a town situated within the Talaud Islands Regency in North Sulawesi province.

BMKG issued a statement detailing the earthquake: “A seismic event with a magnitude of 6.6 was recorded 95 km Northeast of KEP-TALAUD-SULUT, at 10:17:17 UTC on 22-Apr-25. There is no TSUNAMI threat.” The agency further clarified that the data had been reviewed by a seismologist to ensure accuracy.
