Retro Gaming Nostalgia: SNK Screensavers Brightened University IT Labs in the Early Internet Era
During his time studying Information Technology at university, when the internet was still in its initial stages of development, the author recalls a thriving community of fans dedicated to SNK video games. Within this enthusiastic group, a creative individual was producing Windows screensavers derived from the attract sequences of SNK’s popular arcade titles. These digital creations were met with considerable acclaim among enthusiasts.
As an IT student at the time, the author decided to introduce these visually engaging screensavers to the computers within the university’s IT laboratory. He found enjoyment in setting up these screensavers across the lab’s machines.
As a quirky outcome of this, by the end of each day, a multitude of unoccupied computers in the IT lab would automatically display the captivating attract sequences from renowned SNK games, including classics such as “Mark of the Wolves” and “The Last Blade.”
