National Tea Day Taste Test: Yorkshire Tea Crowned Top Brew in Blind Review
April 21st marks National Tea Day, providing the perfect occasion to indulge in a comforting cup of tea. While tea enthusiasts often have preferred brands, a recent blind taste test conducted by TikTok user @beccaeatseverything has yielded surprising results. The reviewer, known for food critiques, sampled various tea brands, including PG Tips, Yorkshire Tea, and Tesco, to determine the superior blend.
Evaluating Tesco Tea Brands
Tesco Finest
The initial tea sampled was Tesco Finest, priced at £2.40. Becca described the flavor as “pleasant” and possessing “robust notes,” but stopped short of declaring it the best, assigning a rating of 7 out of 10.
Tesco Value
Next, she assessed Tesco Value, a budget-friendly option at 55p. This brew was characterized as having an “acceptable flavor profile and strength,” though Becca noted a “hint of bitterness,” resulting in a 3/10 score.
Tesco Own Brand
Tesco’s standard own-brand tea, costing £1.10, proved to be the least favored among the Tesco selections. Despite being pricier than the Value option, it was described as “exceptionally sour and bitter,” earning a low rating of just 1 out of 10 and placing it at the bottom of the rankings.
PG Tips Performance
PG Tips, a widely recognized black tea blend comprising Assam, Ceylon, and Kenyan leaves, is known for its bold and smooth character. The brand reportedly sells over nine billion tea bags annually, reflecting its widespread popularity.

However, PG Tips did not resonate with Becca’s palate. She identified a “peculiar aftertaste” and an impression of “inferior quality,” leading to a 4/10 rating in her blind taste test.
Yorkshire Tea’s Triumph
Yorkshire Tea, another favored black tea blend in the UK, incorporates a combination of 10 to 20 different teas, including varieties from Assam, Kenya, and Rwanda. Endorsed by figures such as Alan Carr, Noel Gallagher, and Sir Patrick Stewart, Yorkshire Tea appears to have secured another fan.
Becca lauded the tea for its “delightful flavors” and “smoothness on the palate.” Although slightly more expensive at £2, she deemed Yorkshire Tea “worth the investment.” Ultimately, it claimed the top spot in her tea taste test, achieving an impressive score of 8.5 out of 10.

- Tesco Own Brand – 1/10
