Everspace 2: Wrath of the Ancients Expansion Gets Price Reduction Due to Economic Climate

Rockfish Games has announced a price adjustment for the forthcoming paid expansion of Everspace 2, titled Wrath of the Ancients. The expansion, slated for a May launch, will now be available at a reduced price, a decision attributed to the current global economic challenges.

Expansion Price Lowered Amidst Economic Concerns

Everspace 2, the acclaimed spaceship looter shooter released in 2023, has consistently received updates over the past two years. Wrath of the Ancients, marking its most substantial expansion to date, promises to enrich the game with new missions, explorable locations, spacecraft, items, and various enhancements.

Initially priced at $30, as revealed earlier this month, the developer has opted to lower the price by $5 for this expansion. This decision is a direct response to the increasing costs impacting consumers worldwide, reflecting a broader economic uncertainty.

Developer Acknowledges Rising Costs and Uncertainty

In a Steam announcement on April 16, Rockfish Games, the studio behind Everspace 2, acknowledged the widespread economic pressures. β€œWith global events unfolding, it appears living expenses are rising, and there is considerable uncertainty,” the developer stated. “You feel it, we feel it, and the constant marketing emphasizing price hikes certainly doesn’t alleviate concerns. Let’s try a different approach!”

Price Adjustment Reflects Developer Consideration

Rockfish Games explained that after internal discussions and a reassessment of their pricing strategy, they decided to reduce the price of Wrath of the Ancients from $30 to $25. The studio emphasized in their Steam post that this price change would not compromise the content included in the downloadable content (DLC).

Price Drop Also Applied to Previous Titans DLC

In addition to the Wrath of the Ancients adjustment, the developers also announced a price decrease for a previously released DLC, Titans. Titans, originally launched at $15, will now be offered at $12. To compensate early adopters who anticipated spending $30 and now have a surplus of $5, Rockfish Games will offer a new artbook and soundtrack. However, the studio recognizes that for many, these funds may be needed for essential expenses.

Studio Expresses Understanding of Player Needs

β€œIf that extra five dollars means more food on your table, we understand and respect that decision,” the studio conveyed. β€œYou can support us by spreading the word about Everspace 2: Wrath of the Ancients and by leaving a positive review if you appreciate the game. Your support is invaluable!”

Industry-Wide Price Increases Highlighted

This price reduction contrasts with recent trends in the gaming industry and broader markets. Notably, Sony recently increased prices for PlayStation Plus subscriptions and PlayStation 5 consoles in several regions. Furthermore, Nintendo’s release of a video game priced at $80, and escalating grocery costs in numerous cities, exacerbated by ongoing global trade dynamics, underscore the current inflationary environment.

Everspace 2: Wrath of the Ancients Launch Date

Everspace 2: Wrath of the Ancients is scheduled to launch on PC and consoles on May 12.
