Personalised AI Health Checks: A Potential Revolution for UK’s Ageing Population

The concept of personalised health assessments, potentially a ‘game changer’ for the UK’s ageing population, has been highlighted by Health Secretary Wes Streeting. These advanced evaluations would integrate genetic analysis and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to formulate bespoke healthcare strategies for individual patients.

Revolutionising Healthcare with Technology

According to the Health Secretary, this cutting-edge technology, currently implemented in Japan, has the potential to transform healthcare delivery. It is anticipated to be a cornerstone of the forthcoming ten-year plan for the National Health Service (NHS), scheduled for release later this year.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Mr. Streeting elaborated: ‘If we can contemplate a health MOT approach, enhanced by genomics and AI machine learning, individuals would receive not just a general check-up, but a highly personalised one. This would enable us to not only diagnose ailments earlier and expedite treatment but also to forecast and proactively prevent illnesses – a true paradigm shift.’

Enhanced Checks for the Elderly and AI Fracture Detection

NHS England has announced plans to provide comprehensive assessments for vulnerable patients over 65 in Accident & Emergency (A&E) departments. These evaluations, available ten hours daily, seven days a week, will focus on monitoring cardiovascular health and mobility.

Furthermore, there are expectations that AI will play a crucial role in pinpointing subtle fractures, with advanced scanning technology expected to be deployed shortly.

vCard QR Code

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

AI Programs to Enhance Fracture Diagnosis Accuracy

The health service’s financial oversight body has sanctioned four AI-driven initiatives designed to decrease the incidence of undiagnosed bone fractures in A&E settings.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) identifies missed fractures as a prevalent error within emergency departments, exacerbated by ongoing shortages of radiologists and radiographers.

Addressing Missed Fractures with AI

The NHS estimates annual expenditures exceeding Β£1 million in compensation claims related to overlooked fractures.

The approved technologies – TechCare Alert, Rayvolve, BoneView, and RBfracture – are projected to improve fracture detection accuracy by approximately 15 percent.

While medical professionals will continue to evaluate scans for fracture indications, in participating hospitals, AI systems will provide a secondary analysis to detect even minor breaks.

Benefits of Early Fracture Detection

Experts suggest that prompt fracture identification through these programs could prevent further complications for patients and expedite their recuperation periods.

Approximately 200,000 individuals are hospitalised annually due to fractures, with hip, ankle, and hand fractures being the most frequent.

Individuals with osteoporosis, a condition characterised by reduced bone density, are also at increased risk of fractures.

AI Learning and Application

The AI scanning technology is refined through a process of uploading numerous bone scan images, enabling the software to learn and accurately identify fracture patterns.

Similar AI programs are also being developed and utilised to facilitate the early detection of cancer.
