Russia Accuses Ukraine of Violating Easter Ceasefire

Moscow has accused Ukrainian forces of persistent attacks, alleging violations of the declared Easter ceasefire initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to reports, these purported Ukrainian offensives continued despite the announced truce.

Russian Ministry of Defence Statement

The Defence Ministry in Moscow stated that Ukrainian attacks, particularly in the Donetsk region, had been successfully repelled. The ministry detailed that Russian forces had countered numerous drone incursions and hundreds of artillery projectiles allegedly launched by Ukraine overnight. These attacks, according to the Russian statement, targeted border areas including Bryansk, Kursk, and Belgorod regions.

The ministry further claimed that these alleged Ukrainian actions resulted in casualties and infrastructural damage. “There are fatalities and injuries among the civilian population and damage to civilian buildings,” the statement read, though specific casualty figures were not immediately provided.

Ukraine Denies Ceasefire Breach, Accuses Russia

Conversely, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky refuted the Russian accusations, asserting that Russian forces were themselves violating the proposed ceasefire. Zelensky contended that Moscow was “attempting to fabricate an illusion of a ceasefire, while in reality, continuing sporadic attempts to advance and inflict casualties on Ukraine” in certain sectors. He conveyed this statement via the social media platform X.

Claims Remain Unverified

Independent verification of the claims made by either Russia or Ukraine remains unattainable at this time due to the ongoing conflict and restricted access to information within the affected regions.
