“This camembert is gently shaped to resemble an egg and then wrapped in serrano ham. I added sweet chilli sauce on top before encasing it in puff pastry. The same technique was then applied to Baby Bell cheeses,” Sheppard explained.

“While the return of warmer weather is welcome, I am personally most thrilled about the return of ‘Picky tea’ to our meal plans, and this creation would serve as an exquisite, oozy Easter centrepiece.”

Camembert, Ham & Sweet Chilli Easter Egg Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet ready-rolled puff pastry
  • 250g baking camembert
  • 5 slices of serrano ham or Prosciutto
  • 4-5 tbsp Sweet Chilli Sauce
  • 1 egg, beaten

Method

Remove the puff pastry from the refrigerator and allow it to rest for 20 minutes. Preheat oven to 180C (350F).

Position the camembert cheese on its side and gently press to shape it into an egg form. Envelop the camembert egg with slices of serrano ham, ensuring it is tightly covered on all sides.

Spread a circular layer of sweet chilli sauce, roughly the size of the camembert, at the centre of the pastry sheet. Place the ham-wrapped camembert on top. Cut a generous circle around the camembert, sufficient to fully enclose it.

Fold the pastry edges towards the middle, working around the circumference to seal the cheese within the pastry. Turn the cheese pastry over and gently press to refine the egg shape.

Cut slender strips from the pastry trimmings and arrange them diagonally across the top of the egg. Decorate with pastry stars if desired. Brush the entire surface with beaten egg.

Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 25 minutes, or until the pastry has puffed up and turned golden brown. Serve immediately, slicing into the pie while it remains warm.
