Awkward Exchange on ‘Love Your Weekend’ with Alan Titchmarsh
An uncomfortable moment unfolded on ITV’s ‘Love Your Weekend’ as host Alan Titchmarsh engaged in conversation with actors Anne Reid and Julian Rhind-Tutt. During the broadcast, the discussion took a turn, leading to some unanticipated exchanges between the personalities on the popular daytime programme.
Recalling ‘Inside No. 9’ Encounters
Titchmarsh initiated the dialogue by noting Reid and Rhind-Tutt’s prior professional connection on the BBC series ‘Inside No. 9’. In response, Reid offered a wry observation, stating, “We met in a wardrobe.”
Rhind-Tutt then added to the recollection with a humorous remark, “We did! We had some intimate couple of days together, didn’t we? Locked in a wardrobe, yes,” elaborating on their shared experience on the programme.
He further informed Titchmarsh that their involvement spanned both the inaugural episode in 2014 and the concluding episode a decade later in 2024.
Drug Comment Causes Surprise
Reid then interjected with a comment that appeared to catch Titchmarsh off guard. “I was on drugs in the last one,” she declared, seemingly referencing her role in the show.

Clarification Sought by Titchmarsh
Seeking to understand Reid’s statement, Titchmarsh probed further, questioning, “What, in the play, you were on drugs? Or were you having a bad day and you needed painkillers?” His query aimed to distinguish between on-screen portrayal and real-life circumstances.
Reid’s Sharp Reponse
Reid responded to his line of questioning with a direct retort, “Well, what’s it to you?” This rejoinder elicited laughter from Titchmarsh as Reid clarified that her remark pertained to her character’s actions within the play, according to reports.
Titchmarsh, responding with levity, commented, “What a glamorous life you actors lead, it’s astonishing isn’t it?”
‘Pin-Up Of The Year’ Discussion
The conversation shifted to Reid’s recognition as ‘Pin-Up of The Year’ by The Oldie Magazine Awards in 2014. Titchmarsh playfully alluded to both Reid and Rhind-Tutt as ‘sex symbols’.
He mentioned, “My researchers told me you were something like Sex Pot Of The Year or something in 2014.”
Reid corrected him, “No, I know what you’re thinking of. I was Pin-Up Of The Year. The Oldie magazine, darling,” clarifying the specifics of her accolade.
When Titchmarsh inquired if the titles were comparable, Reid elaborated on the distinction of the recognition she had received.
Details of the Award Event
Explaining the occasion to Titchmarsh, Reid recounted, “I went to a lunch. Terry Wogan wrote to me and said ‘you’ve been voted Pin-Up Of The Year’ and they had a lunch, terribly famous people were there.”
She continued, “John Major had his wife came and kissed me, Jilly Cooper wrote to me and I sat next to Baroness Trumpington. I had to make a speech and it was an amazing lunch but it’s not the same as being a sex symbol,” highlighting the nature and prestige of the ‘Pin-Up Of The Year’ award compared to a ‘sex symbol’ status.
