TV Personality Danni Menzies Recounts Traumatic Moped Accident and Subsequent Relationship Breakup
Former A Place in the Sun presenter Danni Menzies has revealed details of a distressing medical emergency following a moped crash in 2022 that left her requiring 25 stitches and feeling like the fictional character “Shrek.” The TV personality, known for her role in assisting Britons to find properties overseas, described how the incident dramatically altered her life. Compounding the physical trauma, Menzies also endured a painful relationship breakup via text message shortly after the accident, an experience she claims was “as brutal” as the crash itself.
Recounting the Pavement Collision and Emotional Aftermath
Menzies detailed the incident, explaining she was struck by a speeding moped that had lost control on the pavement. Speaking on the Sun’s Fabulous podcast, she recounted the severity of the crash, stating, “I could have had brain damage or even died.” She added that in the immediate aftermath, while in the hospital recovering from her injuries, her partner at the time ended their relationship via text message. “I was dating someone and he ended it the day after the accident via text, when I looked like Shrek. That was pretty brutal – It hurt as much as the accident,” she confessed.
Coping with Physical and Emotional Distress
Beyond the distress of being abruptly abandoned during a vulnerable period, Menzies also struggled with the visible aftermath of the accident. The formerly glamorous presenter faced the challenge of confronting her reflection, which revealed a swollen and injured face. This combination of circumstances triggered what she described as a “breakdown.”
Navigating Social Media and Embracing Self-Acceptance
Initially hesitant to share her experience on Instagram with her 135,000 followers, Menzies eventually began posting again, initially utilizing a filter application to conceal the scar near her eyebrow. However, she has since shifted her perspective and made the decision to openly display her scar.
Finding Strength in Adversity
In a heartfelt social media post, Menzies articulated a positive perspective derived from her ordeal. “What hurt you once made you stronger. That’s what scars do. They remind us of where we’ve been but they don’t have to dictate where we’re going,” she wrote, revealing a message of resilience and personal growth.

Menzies disclosed that she experienced flashbacks and nightmares related to the crash, which had initially rendered her unconscious. She also feared potential permanent vision loss due to severe swelling around one eye. Following months of therapy, she has found solace in maintaining a gratitude journal, focusing on the positive aspects of her life.
“I’ve been on a real journey with it all, so I’m very grateful to now be in a place that feels like the whole experience in the end has made me stronger,” she explained, highlighting the transformative nature of her recovery process.
New Podcast Venture
In a move forward, Menzies has launched a new podcast titled “Date, Delete, Repeat,” co-hosted with influencer Alex Serruys. New episodes are released every Wednesday.
