Gran Canaria Beaches Implement ‘Pay and Display’ for Sunbeds

Popular tourist beaches in Gran Canaria have initiated a new ‘pay and display’ system for sunbed and parasol rentals. Visitors to this Spanish island destination will now encounter this system at El Perchel, Puerto Rico, and Playa de Mogán beaches when opting to pay for beach amenities with cash.

New Payment System for Beach Amenities

The recently launched service, which began last Friday, mirrors a parking meter system. Beachgoers are required to utilize the machine to select their desired items, such as sun loungers or parasols, and complete their payment directly at the machine.

Upon payment, the machine issues a ticket, which must be retained by the customer throughout their use of the rented sunbed and umbrella. This new system aims to provide an additional payment option for tourists and locals alike.

Card Payments Remain an Option

For beach patrons who prefer to use bank cards, the traditional payment method remains available. Individuals with cards can bypass the new ‘pay and display’ machines and proceed to the beach attendants. These attendants are equipped with card machines to process payments for beach accessory rentals, offering continued convenience for cashless transactions.

Addressing Cash Payment Demand

Willy García, representing Mogan Town Council, explained to Canarian Weekly the rationale behind the new system. He stated, ‘Previously, card payment was the sole option due to security considerations.’ However, responding to popular demand, García added, ‘Numerous beach users have expressed a desire for the ability to pay with cash.’

vCard QR Code

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

In response to these requests and after careful consideration of various alternatives, the council opted to introduce these user-friendly payment machines to accommodate cash transactions.

Explore Beyond the Beaches of Gran Canaria

While Gran Canaria is renowned for its stunning beaches that attract the majority of tourists, travel expert Marek Bron recently advised MailOnline Travel that exploring inland offers a different perspective of the island. He suggested venturing away from the coast to discover the island’s hidden gems.

Bron highlighted the allure of ‘wonderful mountain towns’ offering cooler air and ‘beautiful mountain ranges’ ideal for witnessing sunrises. He further recommended visiting Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the island’s capital, noting its ‘incredible historic buildings’ and vibrant dining scene, encouraging tourists to explore the diverse attractions Gran Canaria has to offer beyond its popular beaches.
