Adams Defends ICE on Fox News Appearance

New York City Mayor Eric Adams recently defended Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) while appearing on a Fox News program hosted by Lara Trump, former President Trump’s daughter-in-law. During the interview, the mayor articulated his support for the federal agency and discussed city immigration policies.

Mayor Adams Backs ICE Amidst Policy Discussions

Mayor Adams participated in “My View with Lara Trump” as an Independent candidate, promoting his administration’s decision to reinstate ICE officers at Rikers Island correctional facility. This action previously faced legal challenges from the City Council.

“A significant error within certain segments of far-left ideology is the portrayal of ICE as a criminal entity. This is inaccurate. They are an integral part of our law enforcement framework,” Adams stated. He further emphasized, “It is imperative that we remove dangerous individuals from our communities.”

Addressing Public Concerns and Policy Objectives

“Some seek to politicize this issue; however, my focus remains on New Yorkers,” Adams continued. “Data indicates that 80% of New York City residents believe that individuals, including those undocumented, who perpetrate serious offenses should be deported after serving their sentences.”

Financial Implications of Federal Immigration Policies

The Mayor also communicated to Lara Trump, previously co-chair of the Republican National Committee, the substantial financial strain imposed on the city due to the current administration’s immigration strategies.

“The $7.5 billion expenditure incurred— $200 million of these funds could have been allocated to support chronically absent students,” he explained.

Impact on City Resources

“These resources could have been directed towards our senior citizens, or towards constructing additional affordable housing. This financial burden should not have been placed upon our city, yet it was,” Adams asserted.

“Navigating this situation has been exceptionally challenging, but we have managed. Nevertheless, it will undoubtedly have enduring consequences for our city.”
