The Italian firefighting service, Vigil del Fuoco, released footage depicting a daring rescue operation in the Piedmont region. The video showcases a firefighter being lowered from a helicopter to extract a man stranded on top of his car, which was surrounded by surging floodwaters.

In the footage, the specialized rescuer carefully descends to the marooned vehicle and secures the individual before hoisting him safely into the helicopter.

Vigil del Fuoco confirmed that this was just one of numerous rescue operations conducted on Wednesday as the floodwaters rose.

Power Outages and Continued Alerts

In Aosta Valley, over 26,000 residents were without electricity on Wednesday due to the severe weather.

The Department of Civil Protection has issued a red alert for hydrologic risk for Friday and Saturday in the Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna regions of Italy, indicating the potential for further flooding risks.
