Born in Bath, England, Joe Thompson’s football journey began at the young age of nine when he joined Manchester United’s esteemed Academy. His professional career saw him represent several clubs, including Tranmere Rovers, Carlisle United, Southport, and Bury. In April 2024, Thompson received a third diagnosis – this time, stage four lymphoma. He continued to fight this advanced stage of cancer with characteristic strength until his death in April 2025.
