Discover Asia’s Top Destinations: Drew Binsky’s Expert Travel Guide

Asia, a continent of remarkable diversity, presents an array of experiences for every traveller. From dynamic metropolises brimming with culture and history to serene shores, verdant jungles, and majestic mountains, Asia boasts countless locales for an unforgettable getaway. For those seeking adventure holidays, tranquil retreats, culinary journeys, or deep cultural immersion, the continent’s diverse landscapes and rich traditions render it an exceptional destination. Globetrotter Drew Binsky, renowned for his extensive travelogues, having visited all 50 Asian nations, unveils his top three destinations that capture the essence of this multifaceted continent.

1. Philippines: An Underrated Gem

Binsky’s premier choice is the Philippines, a nation where he spent two years exploring its diverse landscapes. Comprising over 7,500 islands, the Philippines is celebrated for its spectacular beaches, dynamic cultural tapestry, and exceptionally welcoming populace.

“After immersing myself in the Philippines for two years, I can confidently say it’s among the most undervalued countries globally,” states Binsky. “The cuisine is phenomenal, and for those in pursuit of the finest beaches, the search ends here.”

Among his favoured spots are Palawan and Romblon, where he indulged in activities such as snorkelling and discovering immaculate waters. The Philippines’ signature dish, Lechon, also deeply impressed him, which he enthusiastically described as “incredibly delicious, without a doubt.”

However, what truly distinguishes the Philippines for Binsky is the inherent warmth and graciousness of its people. “The hospitality encountered in the Philippines is unparalleled. It’s genuinely more enjoyable in the Philippines,” he emphasizes.

2. Iran: Unveiling Misconceptions

Next on Binsky’s curated list is Iran, which he portrays as one of the most misunderstood nations worldwide.

Despite its location in the Middle East, a region frequently perceived through lenses of apprehension and inaccurate stereotypes, Iran captivated Binsky with its extraordinary hospitality, awe-inspiring historical landmarks, and surprising natural beauty.

“Iran epitomizes hospitality,” he remarked. A particularly poignant experience involved a shopkeeper who pursued him for ten minutes to return forgotten change.

Iran also presents some of the premier skiing opportunities in Asia, featuring stunning mountain resorts often overlooked by international visitors.

Binsky’s preferred sites within Iran encompass the ancient ruins of Persepolis, the lively Esfahan Square, the expansive covered bazaar in Tabriz, and the breathtaking Rainbow Valley on Qeshm Island.

He also highlights the distinctive fusion of ancient heritage and contemporary life within the country, contributing to its unforgettable appeal.

“Contrary to common perceptions of danger, it’s remarkably safe and welcoming,” Binsky clarifies. “The people express warmth towards visitors and often engage in conversations about international affairs. Iran is truly exceptional.”

3. Vietnam: A Culinary and Scenic Paradise

Vietnam secured its position on Binsky’s list as the third top country in Asia.

He maintains a personal connection to Vietnam, having resided in Hanoi for seven months in 2017. According to Binsky, Vietnam boasts the most exceptional cuisine globally, characterized by wholesome, fresh, and flavourful dishes that are both affordable and delectable.

From the delectable Bánh mì (Vietnamese sandwiches) to the revitalizing pho soup, Binsky found the food consistently gratifying.

“It’s exceptionally clean, remarkably healthy, and the bread—crispy, flaky, and utterly divine,” he expressed. Adding to Vietnam’s allure is its affordability, with meal costs significantly lower than in Western countries.

For adventurous travellers, Binsky suggests renting a motorbike and embarking on a journey from northern to southern Vietnam, an expedition that showcases some of the planet’s most picturesque landscapes. And for any visitor, a trip to Ninh Binh is essential – “Trust me, it’s an experience you won’t regret,” he advises.

Drew Binsky’s extensive journey across Asia has led him through some of the most diverse and fascinating countries on earth.
