Twisted Metal Season 2: More Game Lore and Mayhem Coming to Peacock
Peacock’s action-comedy series, Twisted Metal, starring Anthony Mackie, is set to make its return for a second season on July 31, promising a closer connection to the beloved video game franchise. After a two-year wait since the inaugural season introduced viewers to its chaotic world of murderous clowns and menacing villains, the upcoming season will delve deeper into the source material, incorporating iconic elements from the Twisted Metal games.
Recap of Season 1
Season one of Twisted Metal followed John Doe (Anthony Mackie), an amnesiac delivery driver, as he traversed a post-apocalyptic landscape filled with bizarre threats. His perilous journey to deliver a mysterious package took him through territories controlled by a deranged preacher’s cult, bands of cannibalistic highwaymen, and even face-to-face with the unsettlingly comedic Sweet Tooth (portrayed physically by Joe Seanoa aka Samoa Joe, with voice acting by Will Arnett). The season finale revealed the package delivery to be a precursor to the infamous car combat tournament central to the Twisted Metal video game series. Viewers also learned of John Doe’s sister, Dollface (Tiana Okoye), known as Krista in the upcoming season, who leads a vigilante group called the Dolls. This was merely the groundwork for the expanded universe and richer storylines to come in season two.
Season 2 to Feature Tournament and Iconic Characters
According to IGN‘s recent deep dive into the series, the second season of Twisted Metal will expand to twelve episodes, up from the first season’s ten. The highly anticipated Twisted Metal tournament will be a prominent feature, unfolding throughout the latter portion of the season. Fans of the games will be thrilled by the introduction of Mr. Grimm, a character featured in every Twisted Metal installment. This soul-stealing biker will be brought to life by Richard de Klerk. Furthermore, season two will also showcase Axel, arguably one of the most recognizable and eagerly awaited figures from the Twisted Metal universe. Axel will appear in his signature War Wheel form – the muscle-bound character strapped between two massive wheels.
Bringing Axel to Live-Action
Showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith explained that the absence of Axel in the initial season stemmed from the challenge of translating such a visually complex character to live-action.
“How do you realistically portray a character who is essentially a large, muscular man trapped between two giant wheels? The initial reaction is disbelief, followed by the question of feasibility. It was undoubtedly a significant hurdle,” Smith admitted.

Axel’s Makeshift Design and Anticipated Mayhem
Smith has reassured fans that Axel will indeed appear in the second season. The character’s vehicle will sport a more rudimentary, less futuristic aesthetic, described as a “version 1.0 Axel,” still under development by in-universe mechanics. The anticipation is high for Axel to join the high-octane fray and unleash vehicular pandemonium alongside other competitors in the live-action Twisted Metal battle royale. Audiences can eagerly anticipate indulging in the vehicular carnage when season two premieres on July 31.
