Lake Bell Discusses Coparenting Challenges and Dating as a Single Parent

Actress Lake Bell is candid about the intricacies of coparenting her two children with former spouse Scott Campbell, including navigating the dating landscape as single parents. The celebrity coparenting journey, as shared by Bell, offers insights into post-divorce family dynamics.

Establishing Boundaries for Introducing New Partners

Bell, 46, revealed in a recent interview with Parents.com, published on Monday, April 14, that since her separation from Campbell, 47, in 2020, they have developed guidelines concerning when to introduce their children to new romantic interests.

“Scott and I initially set parameters around introductions, and now we have mutual trust to determine appropriate timing,” she stated. “However, I generally prefer a cautious approach. If a relationship progresses for five or six months and a partner demonstrates genuine interest in meeting my children, then I consider it. Alternatively, introductions might occur sooner if a partner has children of their own. Compatibility between children is crucial; mismatched children can present insurmountable challenges to a relationship.”

Navigating Shared Challenges and Mutual Respect

The former couple shares son Ozzi, 7, and daughter Nova, 11. Their coparenting journey has included significant hurdles. Ozzi experienced a near-fatal incident at birth, and Nova received an epilepsy diagnosis in 2020.

The Role of Coparenting Therapy

Bell and Campbell’s coparenting philosophy is rooted in therapy, which they engaged in for two years following their divorce.

Maintaining Open Communication and a Business-like Approach

Bell has consistently emphasized the significance of mutual respect and clear communication in coparenting, since her formal separation from Campbell.

Coparenting is an ongoing evolution,” she explained in a 2022 interview with Us Weekly. “It demands continuous effort, similar to any relationship, but it is the most vital relationship in my life, undertaken for our children’s well-being.”

She further described Campbell as a friend, characterizing their coparenting dynamic as a business partnership.
