Wellness Influencer Kat Torres’ Rise and Fall: From Social Media Fame to Prison
Kat Torres, a Brazilian influencer who initially garnered attention on social media for her wellness-focused content, experienced a dramatic shift as she became embroiled in serious allegations. The internet personality, now incarcerated, amassed a considerable following and established a brand centered around self-help videos and a paid wellness subscription. The once-admired online figure also purported to possess spiritual gifts, fostering a close connection with her followers. However, her trajectory took a dark turn when she became the subject of a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) inquiry, ultimately leading to her arrest in 2024.
Who is Kat Torres?
Before her career on the internet, Torres worked as a model and participated in beauty pageants in Brazil, her country of origin.
In July 2024, several former followers disclosed in interviews with the BBC that their involvement with Torres and her online material led them to feel increasingly “isolated” from their established relationships and support systems. One individual even drastically altered their life, relocating to become Torres’ live-in assistant.
In September 2022, authorities initiated missing person reports for two Brazilian women who had relocated to Torres’ residence in Texas. (Torres had referred to them as her “witch clan” on various social media platforms.)
Subsequently, investigators discovered their “profiles on escort and prostitution websites.” By this time, Torres had relocated from Texas to Maine, accompanied by the women. Despite the women requesting the cessation of the search, a welfare check in November 2022, prompted by law enforcement, resulted in the women returning to Brazil the following month.
Kat Torres
By April 2024, Torres had already faced trial in Brazil and asserted her innocence during a BBC interview, refuting all accusations.
“When I was observing the individuals giving testimony, they were fabricating numerous falsehoods,” she contended. “So many fabrications that at a certain juncture, I was unable to restrain my laughter.”
She further stated, “Individuals are free to accept any belief they choose. I am capable of declaring myself to be Jesus, and you retain the option to perceive either Jesus or the devil – that is the essence of it. It is a matter of individual perception.”
In July 2024, Torres was convicted of human trafficking and slavery, receiving an eight-year prison sentence. (She has initiated an appeal against the conviction.)

Torres released her book, A Voz, in 2017. In this memoir, she professed the ability to foresee future events through her spiritual connections.
