Jelly Roll’s Weight Loss Journey: Musician Spotted Running in Los Angeles

Country music star Jelly Roll offered fans a glimpse into his fitness regime as he continues his impressive weight loss journey. The “Wild Ones” singer was seen running in Los Angeles on Wednesday, showcasing his dedication to health and wellness. The 40-year-old artist, who recently surprised audiences with his transformed appearance at Pat McAfee’s Big Night Aht event, was accompanied by his personal trainer during the outdoor workout.

Continued Dedication to Fitness

This public display of exercise follows Jelly Roll’s recent update on his significant progress, revealing a remarkable weight reduction from 540lbs to 357lbs. Sporting a casual yet focused look, the musician, whose given name is Jason DeFord, wore black shorts and a zipped-up black hooded jacket for his run. He completed his athletic attire with black sneakers and a backwards baseball cap.

Jelly Roll’s commitment to running is evident, having previously participated in the 2 Bears 5k Marathon in Los Angeles the previous year.

From Workout to Awards: Jelly Roll Honored at Pollstar Awards

Later the same day, the “Son of a Sinner” vocalist transitioned from his fitness endeavors to the spotlight, attending the 36th Annual Pollstar Awards in Beverly Hills, California. The evening proved triumphant for Jelly Roll as he received the esteemed Country Tour of the Year Award.

Inside Jelly Roll’s Health Transformation

In an April 2024 interview with People, the country star detailed his rigorous fitness routine: “I’ve been really pushing myself. I’m consistently running two to three miles daily, four to six days each week.” He further elaborated on his regimen, including “20 to 30 minutes in the sauna, and six minutes in a cold plunge every day. I’m also maintaining a healthy diet currently.”

Expressing his positive outlook, the singer stated, “I feel remarkably well. I’m contemplating shedding another 100 to 100-plus pounds. If I feel this invigorated at this weight, I can only envision how incredible I’ll feel when I embark on tour.”

Surpassing Weight Loss Goals

Jelly Roll recently disclosed exceeding his initial goal of losing 100lbs during an appearance at Pat McAfee’s Big Night Aht event in Pittsburgh on April 9th. During the live broadcast, the music artist proudly displayed his noticeably leaner physique.

In an open interview, he shared his weight loss achievement, dropping from 540lbs to 357lbs, and enthusiastically announced, “I intend to lose another 100lbs and go skydiving with my wife in Sweden, baby!”

Bunnie XO’s Weight Loss Journey and Support

The artist and his wife, Bunnie XO, have been transparent about their respective weight loss journeys. Bunnie XO previously revealed in October of last year her experience with the weight-loss medication tirzepatide. While mentioning she was still experiencing significant hunger, she openly discussed some side effects on her podcast. Tirzepatide is a medication designed for individuals with type 2 diabetes, also utilized to assist in weight management.

Aspirations for Men’s Health Cover

Last December, in a conversation on Bunnie XO’s “Dumb Blonde” podcast, Jelly Roll unveiled a new personal aspiration: gracing the cover of Men’s Health magazine.

“My goal is to be on the cover of Men’s Health by March 2026. That’s my new objective. I aspire to achieve one of the most significant transformations,” he declared.

He further explained his public declaration, stating, “I’m sharing this publicly for a reason. I want to be candid about my ongoing challenges with this process.”

Body Image and Public Transformation

Reflecting on body image and fame, the hitmaker shared, “I believe that individuals who reach a certain size, as I did, often feel ashamed when they undertake weight loss. They retreat, lose the weight, and then reappear unsure how to navigate the world with their altered appearance and self-perception. I wanted to undergo this transformation openly, in the public eye, and discuss it frankly.”

Diverse Fitness Activities

To facilitate his weight loss, the two-time Grammy nominee has incorporated a variety of exercises into his routine, including boxing, basketball, and arena walking.

Nutritional Strategies for Success

Jelly Roll’s nutritionist, Ian Larios, previously disclosed some key components of the artist’s dietary strategy. A favored pre-show snack includes a banana topped with Manuka honey, stevia, and dark chocolate shavings.

Post-performance, Jelly Roll enjoys a healthier take on Nashville hot chicken, prepared by his nutritionist to minimize oil and batter. This reimagined dish is served with air-fried French fries coated in bone broth, enhancing protein content and providing a satisfying crunch, effectively mimicking the experience of traditional, greasy Nashville hot chicken while remaining health-conscious.

Addressing Food Addiction

Candidly addressing his struggles with food addiction in a previous interview, Jelly Roll stated, “The core challenge was overcoming food addiction and reshaping my relationship with food, which has been ingrained for nearly four decades.”

He continued, “I’ve never had a healthy dynamic with food, making it the most demanding aspect. However, once discipline and commitment take hold, it becomes a powerful force. Once that initial momentum started, it propelled forward.”

Family Motivation for a Healthier Lifestyle

In a past appearance on the “Bussin’ With The Boys” podcast in June 2024, the artist revealed that family aspirations also motivated his weight loss. Already a father to Bailee Ann, 16, and Noah Buddy, eight, from previous relationships, Jelly Roll shared his and Bunnie XO’s considerations for expanding their family.

“My wife and I are contemplating having a child, prompting me to recognize that at almost 40, I need to aim to live to at least 60 to see this child through college,” he explained.

He added, “I once believed that success and stability would resolve all of life’s challenges. However, even with achieving those, problems persist. My initial life plan didn’t extend far beyond 55, but now I aspire to reach my 60s and beyond. That realization became a significant motivator for me.”
