Price Criticizes Rotterdam Venue After Premier League Darts Defeat
Gerwyn Price has voiced his strong disapproval of Rotterdam Ahoy as a host venue for Premier League Darts, urging the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) to seek an alternative location. The Welsh darts player expressed concerns regarding the playing conditions, suggesting they were inconsistent for competitors, following his quarter-final loss to Nathan Aspinall on Night 11 of the tournament.
Frustration with Playing Conditions
Price, defeated 6-3 by Aspinall, implied that his opponent may have had an unfair advantage during their quarter-final match. The 40-year-old darts professional is advocating for the PDC to discontinue using Ahoy Rotterdam, which has been a fixture on the Premier League Darts calendar since 2016, and instead identify a new venue.
Social Media Outburst
In a post shared on his Instagram story, Price conveyed his disappointment stating: “Gutted for myself, gutted for everyone who supports me, I’m so sorry but this week was pointless and we move to next week. Darts were blowing everywhere and after leg one, which was lucky, I knew it [was] pointless. And where I was in the league after vital points it’s not what I wanted.”
He continued his criticism, directly addressing the PDC: “Hopefully @officialpdc will now stop coming here and look for alternative venues. Not good for the players, not good for the fans, and not good for people that like a bet. Onto next week where we get to play in decent conditions.”
In a subsequent Instagram story post, Price further emphasized his sentiment, stating: “And if you think it’s the same for both players your [sic] as daft as you look.”

Performance Impact
The evening proved to be a challenging one for Price, who struggled to find his rhythm throughout the match. His performance resulted in an average score of 94.19, in contrast to Aspinall’s 97.02.
Other Player Disappointments
The 2021 world champion was not alone in experiencing quarter-final disappointment. Luke Humphries also faced an early exit, losing 6-3 to Chris Dobey. Humphries had recently voiced his concerns about the demanding schedule and its adverse effects on both his mental state and match performances.
Van Gerwen’s Surprise Defeat
Adding to the upsets of Night 11, local favorite Michael van Gerwen was defeated by Stephen Bunting in a surprising quarter-final result. Despite enjoying strong support from the home crowd, the Dutch darting star suffered a 6-5 defeat against Bunting.
Bunting’s Mixed Reception
Bunting faced boos from the crowd as he secured his victory. The 40-year-old has encountered difficulties this year and had not achieved a single match win until Night Nine. However, he capitalized on the momentum from his quarter-final triumph over Nathan Aspinall to ultimately win the entire Berlin event. Prior to this victory, he had been close to surpassing Peter Wright’s streak of consecutive losses in the Premier League.
