Proposed Federal Budget Outlines Significant Cuts to Health Agencies

Washington, D.C. – A preliminary federal budget proposal is being distributed among officials, suggesting substantial reductions to federal health programs and signaling potential large-scale workforce reductions. The draft document offers insight into the Trump administration’s priorities as it prepares its fiscal year 2026 budget proposal for Congress. The plan indicates intentions to implement deeper cuts to both staffing and funding across numerous federal departments.

FDA Budget Facing Nearly Half-Billion Dollar Reduction

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) could see its budget decreased by approximately $500 million, bringing it down to $6.5 billion. This reduction is partly attributed to the elimination of certain long-standing agency responsibilities, with the intention of transferring these duties to individual states.

CDC Core Budget Predicted to Be Severely Impacted

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is also slated for major budgetary adjustments. Its core funding is projected to be significantly reduced from over $9 billion to around $5 billion. This decrease involves the elimination of several programs and the potential transfer of others into a newly proposed entity named the Administration for a Healthy America.

Budget Proposal Details Emerge

Details of the proposal were initially disclosed by The Washington Post. The Associated Press has obtained a copy of the 64-page document, dated April 10, which is currently circulating among health officials.
