NFL Star Travis Kelce’s Deep Interest in The Masters Golf Tournament

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was so engrossed in the drama unfolding at The Masters golf tournament that he contemplated altering his weekend schedule to witness the final round live at Augusta National. This year’s Masters, a premier event in golf, was highly anticipated, particularly due to the presence of star player Rory McIlroy.

McIlroy’s Pursuit of the Green Jacket Captivates Kelce

Rory McIlroy’s quest for his first Green Jacket and his first major championship in over a decade captivated audiences, including NFL player Travis Kelce. Every putt from McIlroy held significant weight as he pursued victory. Ultimately, McIlroy secured a dramatic playoff win, holding the attention of fans across America, and Kelce himself.

Kelce’s Near Last-Minute Trip to Augusta

Kelce, however, did not disclose his original weekend plans that were nearly superseded by the allure of witnessing the Masters finale in person, instead of watching from home or alongside his girlfriend, Taylor Swift.

During their “New Heights” podcast, Jason Kelce initiated the conversation, “We’ve got a new Masters champion! Trav, did you watch?”

“Dude, I did, and it was electric,” Travis responded. “The entire time I was thinking, ‘Oh man, am I going to go to the Masters on Sunday?’ Am I going to find a way to get down there to watch this epic ending?’ Bryson making a run on Saturday; Justin Rose trying to hang on; and Rory, the rollercoaster all week, and then just skyrocketing. It was so fun to watch! Big shoutout to Rory, how about that Green Jacket. A career Grand Slam, only a handful have ever done it.”

Kelce Brothers Discuss McIlroy’s Victory and the Tournament’s Drama

“I was rooting for Rory, and I actually had bet on Rory, so I am very happy about this result. I’m not much of a gambler, but I placed a few small wagers on him. Rory seems like a genuinely great guy. He has achieved so much in golf except for this, and his current form is incredible, so I think everyone is thrilled about it,” Jason commented.

“Dude, the final day was probably the most stressed I’ve ever been watching golf,” Travis admitted. “Right from the start, he double bogeys, and Bryson is tied, then Bryson takes the lead after a couple of holes. I’m thinking, ‘dude, is he collapsing again?’ I couldn’t help but have that thought!”

“It was an emotional rollercoaster for everyone watching!” Travis added.

“He makes an incredible comeback, establishes a commanding lead… that putt on 18, though. I understand that feeling, missing an eagle putt because you know how much an eagle would mean in that moment. You’re standing there thinking, ‘I’m going to sink this, this is amazing,’ and then you either pull it or push it. I think everyone can relate to that moment. Especially considering he lost to Bryson last year on a very similar putt…” Jason further explained.

“It had been over a decade since my guy won a major championship. That’s insane! And that final putt… you have it within reach, all you need to do is sink that putt. You could see the pressure on him. But then he just decided, ‘enough is enough’. And the playoff was incredibly satisfying, watching him go back and forth. And Justin Rose, I won’t lie, I thought he was going to sink that putt on 18,” Travis stated.

“What was interesting was, I was initially rooting for Rory, but then considering Justin Rose’s history of runner-up finishes and how many times he’s been close, I was kind of rooting for both… but the moment Rory hit that second shot in the playoff, it was incredible. It did not disappoint. Probably the most exciting Sunday of Masters golf I’ve ever witnessed,” Jason concluded.

“It was a very fun weekend!” Travis affirmed.
