Tennis icon Roger Federer has hinted at a potential return to the sport, expressing that he misses the daily routine of professional tennis since his retirement nearly three years ago. The Swiss legend, who bid farewell in a memorable send-off alongside Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray at the Laver Cup, has suggested he might make a comeback in exhibition matches.

Federer Hints at Tennis Comeback

Despite making infrequent appearances at tennis events, including a notable visit to Wimbledon last year, Federer had previously offered little indication of a desire to return to the court. However, after dedicating significant time to golf during his retirement, Federer now appears ready to reignite his passion for tennis.

“Enough with the Golf, Back to Tennis”

“Honestly, I’d love to play some more tennis again,” Federer told TNT Sports. “Enough with the golf, I’ve played so much. So seriously, I would love to start playing two or three times a week and hopefully get myself back on the exhibition court and fill up a few nice stadiums around the world. I have no plans yet.”

Federer elaborated on his sentiments, stating, “The training part, I miss it a little bit. I haven’t played a whole lot since I retired because my body and mind needed a break. I have with my kids, but I would love to go and practice as I travel and hopefully you will see me play an exhibition soon.”

The prospect of Federer’s return, coinciding with fellow tennis star Rafael Nadal’s retirement the previous year, is likely to generate considerable excitement among fans eager to witness either a renewed rivalry or potential collaborations between the legendary players.

Wimbledon Return Speculation

Federer has consistently voiced his affection for Wimbledon, fueling speculation that the hallowed grounds of SW19 could be the ideal venue for his first appearance back on a tennis court.

Wimbledon Invitational Doubles

The All England Club has a tradition of utilizing the invitational doubles event to welcome back beloved former players. This format provides a less physically demanding way for legends to reconnect with the sport and its fans.

Barty’s Invitational Return Sets Precedent

Last year, Ash Barty, another recently retired champion, made a surprise return to Wimbledon, partnering with Casey Dellacqua in the invitational doubles. It marked Barty’s first match at Wimbledon since her victory in the 2021 singles championship, before retiring at the age of 25.

Barty reportedly enjoyed her return to competitive tennis in the invitational format. She even playfully suggested partnering with Andy Murray in mixed doubles for a future event, highlighting the relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere of the invitational.

Potential Star-Studded Wimbledon Line-up

The prospect of Murray, Barty, and Federer potentially participating in this summer’s Wimbledon tournament would undoubtedly be a major draw for spectators, adding extra star power to the prestigious Grand Slam event.
