PGA Tour Golfer Wesley Bryan Faces Suspension After LIV Golf Appearance

Professional golfer Wesley Bryan, a prominent figure on the PGA Tour, has been handed a suspension following his participation in a LIV Golf affiliated event in March. The 35-year-old golfer took part in “The Duels,” a YouTube-based match that was filmed during the controversial Saudi-funded league’s tournament held in Miami. This action has resulted in disciplinary measures from the PGA Tour.

Details of the LIV Golf Event and PGA Tour Sanction

The Duels match presented a substantial prize fund of Β£191,000 for the victorious team. George Bryan and Sergio Garcia emerged as the winners in a playoff against the team of Bubba Watson and Luke Kwo. The online event garnered significant attention, attracting two million viewers on Grant Horvat’s YouTube channel alone. Following his involvement, Bryan was initially placed on probation by the PGA Tour. This has now escalated to an indefinite suspension.

Bryan’s Reaction and Career Concerns

During the Corales Puntacana Championship, an event where Bryan previously achieved a runner-up finish to Billy Horschel in 2024, he openly spoke about his anxieties that this suspension could potentially signal the end of his playing career. “Over the past eight or nine years, I’ve been afforded incredible opportunities,” Bryan stated. “I am deeply appreciative of the PGA Tour for that. My hope is that this does not mark the conclusion of my professional golf journey.”

Continuing with Planned Travel Despite Ban

Despite the imposed ban, Bryan proceeded with his pre-arranged travel to the Puntacana Resort with his family. He is currently sharing accommodation with fellow PGA Tour member Ben Martin and his family. He clarified his choice to still visit the Dominican Republic, stating, “We had envisioned this family vacation for several months, so we decided to proceed as planned. It has been a considerable period since we took a family trip where golf was not the central focus.”

Bryan’s Professional Background and YouTube Presence

Bryan transitioned into professional golf in 2012. He achieved a notable victory on the PGA Tour at the 2017 RBC Heritage, where he triumphed over current European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald. This win secured his participation in the subsequent Masters Tournament. Although he has competed in all four major championships, Bryan has yet to make the cut in any of them. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his professional future, the former world No.36 asserted that he does not regret his participation in the Miami-based LIV Golf event.
