Mother Arrested in Alleged Hitman Plot Targeting Ex-Husband, Former TV Anchor
In a shocking development, Angelia Huffines Solomon, the mother of deceased teen baseball prodigy Grant Solomon, has been apprehended for allegedly plotting to hire a hitman to murder her former spouse, a Nashville-based television personality. The arrest casts a dark shadow over the unresolved circumstances surrounding Grant Solomon’s death in a 2020 roadside incident, a case his mother has persistently challenged.
Unveiled Interview Reveals Solomon’s Ominous Remarks
Newly disclosed information obtained by Daily Mail reveals that Angelia Huffines Solomon, 55, expressed a desire for her ex-husband to be “gone” and asserted he “didnāt deserve to be on this Earth.” These chilling statements were made during a 2023 interview, now brought to light for the first time, adding a disturbing layer to the unfolding legal drama.
Years-Long Quest for Answers in Son’s Death
Since the tragic July 2020 incident, Angelia Solomon has been relentlessly seeking clarity regarding the death of her 18-year-old son, Grant. She has questioned the official ruling of accidental death, specifically how Grant could have been fatally injured by his own pickup truck on the side of a Tennessee road.
Her suspicions have consistently centered on Aaron Solomon, her ex-husband and previously a well-known morning news anchor for WSMV, who was the sole known witness at the scene of Grantās death.
On the morning of his death, Grant Solomon was en route to meet his father for a private baseball pitching session at the Ward Performance Institute in Gallatin, approximately 50 miles from their Franklin residence.

Within ten minutes of his arrival, Aaron Solomon placed a 911 call, reporting that his son was trapped beneath his white Toyota pickup truck at the bottom of a ditch.
Grant, a high school senior with a promising future in baseball, was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter. Authorities subsequently classified the death as accidental and closed the investigation, a decision Angelia Solomon has vehemently contested.
Mother’s Persistent Demands for Further Investigation
Angelia Solomon has maintained that the initial inquiry into her son’s death was inadequate, citing the absence of a comprehensive police investigation, a scene reconstruction, or a post-mortem examination, including toxicology analysis. Her repeated pleas to law enforcement to reopen the case have been unsuccessful.
Daughter’s Allegations and Defamation Lawsuit
Adding further complexity to the family’s turmoil, Gracie Solomon, Angeliaās now 18-year-old daughter, publicly accused her father of past sexual abuse in a YouTube video released in May 2021.
Aaron Solomon has consistently and emphatically denied all allegations made by his former wife and daughter and has never faced any criminal charges related to these claims.
In response to these accusations, Aaron Solomon initiated a defamation lawsuit in May 2021 against Angelia and four others, asserting they were disseminating baseless and damaging claims.
Chilling Interview Excerpts Reveal Mother’s Despair and Anger
In a May 2023 interview, Angelia Solomon articulated intense emotions toward her ex-husband, describing the ‘hellish rage’ she harbored and expressing a desire for his permanent disappearance.
When questioned about her definition of justice in her sonās case, Angelia stated it would involve Aaron experiencing “the same thing” that happened to Grant.
āThat heād be gone,ā she clarified. āGracie wants him to be locked up and that he doesnāt ever walk free, but in order to feel totally protected and peaceful and free […] he would have to be gone.ā
āI donāt really know at what point that will happen. You know, life cycles and things like that,ā she added, hinting at a fatalistic view.
Angelia further stated, āHe deserves the worst […] he deserves the death penalty, he deserves the chair.ā
āWhat he did to both of my children he doesnāt deserve to be on this Earth,ā she declared, alleging abuse. āI think God has my back on that – heās a danger to society.ā
Arrest in Hitman-for-Hire Plot
Last Friday, authorities arrested Angelia Solomon after she allegedly met with an undercover law enforcement officer posing as a hired killer in the parking area of the Cool Springs Mall in Franklin. This information is based on an affidavit of complaint obtained by the Daily Mail.
According to reports, Angelia purportedly told the undercover officer that she wanted her ex-husband to “disappear and be put underground,” suggesting his demise would grant her daughter access to a trust fund.
She was formally charged with solicitation to commit first-degree murder against Aaron Solomon.
Unresolved Questions Surrounding Grant Solomon’s Death Highlighted
DailyMail.com initially covered the perplexing death of Grant Solomon in March 2024. Angelia Solomon had consistently asserted that the police investigation was inadequate, leading to a premature conclusion regarding the cause of death.
She provided Daily Mail with documentation purportedly signed by Aaron Solomon, indicating his refusal of an autopsy or post-mortem examination for his son.
Recordings of Aaron Solomon’s 911 call, also obtained by this publication, capture him telling the dispatcher, “his son’s truck backed over him and dragged him into the ditch and the truck is on top of him.”
He is heard exclaiming: ‘Oh my god, oh my god […] He is underneath the vehicle. It is a white truck. That is my son […] somehow it backed up. Oh my god […] this is not good […] I guess he didn’t have it in park […] it wasn’t engaged […] the brakes.’
During the call, he mentions the presence of three other individuals at the scene assisting him. The dispatcher instructs him to ascertain if Grant is breathing.
Aaron repeatedly breaks away from his conversation with the 911 operator, seemingly addressing someone else at the scene, although no other voices are audible in the recording.
Aaron is also heard relaying the operator’s instructions, asking an unidentified person, āis he facing up or down?ā
Subsequently, Aaron states that Grant is face-up with blood emanating from his mouth.
At one juncture, Aaron raises his voice, instructing Grant to turn his face to the side, if possible, while the operator cautions against moving him.
An incident report later obtained by the Daily Mail stated that emergency responders found Grant lying face-up on a pile of rocks at the base of a drainage ditch, positioned beneath the truck’s front two tires.
Conflicting Accounts and Injury Discrepancies
In his statement to police, Aaron Solomon recounted that he and Grant had parked their vehicles side-by-side outside the Ward Performance Institute.
‘I was still in my car, but noticed my son got out to get his baseball gear out of the back of his truck,’ he stated.
‘I looked down to check a work email and the next thing I know I hear and see the truck rolling backwards into the ditch. I get out of my car to try to find my son and saw that he was trapped underneath the truck and immediately called 911.’
The purported three individuals referenced by Aaron Solomon in his 911 call were not documented in the police report, have never been identified, nor have they come forward publicly.
Employees at the Ward Performance Institute informed investigators that they lacked external surveillance cameras that could have recorded the events.
The Gallatin Police Department’s incident report stated: ‘Vehicle one was stopped in the parking lot 1357 Highway 109 South. The owner of vehicle one, exited the truck and was subsequently struck by truck as it rolled down the parking lot.ā
āVehicle one [dragged] the owner into the drainage ditch where it came to rest. The owner was trapped underneath.ā
Grant Solomonās official cause of death was determined to be multiple blunt force trauma, and the manner of death was classified as accidental.
He was officially pronounced dead less than an hour after Aaron Solomon’s emergency call.
Mother Questions Accident Narrative and Injury Profile
In her May 2023 interview, Angelia Solomon cast doubt on her ex-husband’s version of events and argued that the injuries sustained by Grant were inconsistent with being dragged across a parking lot and into a ditch by a substantial vehicle.
Referring to an EMS report detailing Grant’s injuries, Angelia highlighted that he presented with only a bruise on his upper thigh, a hip contusion, a jaw injury, and a laceration to the rear of his head.
āItās not possible to be dragged as far as he was, across the asphalt, without suffering significant drag marks,ā she asserted.
āThe truck wouldāve been hot too, [but] there were no burn marks, no bruising, there was no skin loss, and there were no marks on his hands.ā
āOne thing about Grant is he wouldāve fought beneath that truck like hell […] and his clothes were perfectly clean and werenāt dirty. He wasnāt run over by those wheels,ā she further claimed, challenging the official account.
Claims of Prior Discord and Abuse Allegations
Angelia Solomon asserted that considerable tension existed between Grant and Aaron Solomon in the weeks preceding his death.
Reportedly, Grant had confided in his girlfriend his intention, upon turning 18, to expose his father’s alleged abuse in court and seek custody of his younger sister, claims corroborated by both Angelia and Gracie Solomon.
Mother’s Ongoing Efforts for Independent Review
In 2023, Angelia Solomon was advocating for an independent investigation into Grantās death to be conducted outside of Tennessee. She had also engaged a private investigator and was attempting to have her sonās remains exhumed for an independent autopsy.
District Attorney Dismisses Homicide Speculation
In response to Angelia Solomonās continued allegations, Sumner County District Attorney Ray Whitley characterized Grant Solomonās death as a ‘parking lot accident’ and declared his office would not be reopening the investigation.
‘It’s been looked into and the investigation has been reopened before. There is no basis for a homicide charge or no criminal act here,’ he stated definitively.
‘It is just a horrible accident, and I am really sorry that it happened, but it’s not a criminal case so there is nothing we are going to go forward with.’
‘Angie Solomon, I know she has advanced this petition and she has stated what she thinks the facts are, and they’re not necessarily the true facts, and there’s nothing we have been able to find whatsoever that would support a criminal prosecution.’
Whitley declined to elaborate on the specific evidence that informed his decision.
‘I’m not going into the details. I don’t want to debate that at all,’ Whitley informed Daily Mail correspondent Ruth Bashinsky.
‘All I can say is that it’s been looked into and I’ve asked the police department to look into it again – which they have done – and there’s just nothing there.’
Public and Online Support for Further Inquiry
Grant Solomonās story gained traction on social media, and an online petition initiated by the family to finance their investigative endeavors has garnered significant support, raising $137,106 towards a $250,000 target. A separate fundraising campaign for Gracie Solomon accumulated $39,935.
A Change.org petition urging the reopening of the case also circulated widely online, amassing over 330,000 signatures.
The petition description, authored by Angelia Solomon, stated that Grant was alone with his father for the first time in two years on the day of the incident.
‘Itās important to note that Aaron and Grant had a turbulent past due to Grant reporting that Aaron had been abusing both Grant and his younger sister, Gracie,’ the petition further detailed.
Contentious Divorce and Custody Disputes
Angelia and Aaron Solomonās separation occurred in 2013 and their subsequent divorce proceedings were highly adversarial.
Their Davidson County legal file contains 278 entries spanning a seven-year period, reflecting extensive litigation over multiple issues, including Aaron Solomonās custody of Grant and Gracie.
In 2014, Aaron Solomon secured a temporary restraining order against Angelia, alleging her persistent ābaseless allegations of abuse against Mr. Solomon, sexually and otherwise.ā
The restraining order restricted Angeliaās visitation with her children to six hours per week, citing concerns about Angeliaās mental health, according to court documents.
At the time of Grantās death, both Grant and Gracie were residing with Angelia.
Numerous post-divorce legal actions were initiated between the former couple in Williamson County.
Defamation Lawsuit and Countersuit
In his May 2021 lawsuit, Aaron Solomon accused Angelia and others of disseminating false accusations against him online.
He alleged that his ex-wife, ‘along with her friends and associates,’ engaged in a ‘smear campaign against Mr. Solomon through social media,’ and that these allegations were made ‘recklessly.’
As part of the legal filing, Aaron Solomon sought a temporary injunction to prevent Angelia and the other defendants from discussing any allegations of ‘physical or sexual abuse of his ex-wife or children or that he caused Grant Solomonās death.’
Angelia Solomon filed a countersuit against Aaron, requesting the court to dismiss his claims.
Her legal response contended that Gracie’s video testimony posted on YouTube alleging abuse constituted a ‘clear exercise of her First Amendment rights.’
The filing also included multiple sworn statements from individuals accusing Aaron Solomon of abuse, including Gracie.
The resolution of this litigation remains unclear.
Mother Describes Living in Fear
Reflecting on their strained relationship in 2023, Angelia Solomon stated that she and Gracie were living in fear of Aaron Solomon.
āWe are hyper vigilant. We have alarm systems and of course dogs but we have our house secured like Fort Knox,ā she recounted.
āIt all angers me to the point where itās not anger any more – itās just a hellish rage.’
āBut I put my faith in God, thatās whatās sustained me through all this. And Grace does too, as did Grant. Thatās where I have to place my faith because I canāt fathom what we have lived through, and what weāre in the middle of, and how he walks around living his best life like a multi-millionaire.’
āItās a tough spot to be in,ā she admitted. āAt some point that dam is going to crack […] but I donāt have time to focus on what heās doing or where heās at because Iām too busy trying to protect and fight.ā
In a NewsNation interview last year, Angelia Solomon reiterated her belief that her former husband was implicated in their son’s death.
Aaron Solomon has not responded to requests for comment.
Angelia Solomon remains in custody. She appeared in court on Monday and was assigned a public defender.
Her bail is set at $500,000, and she has not yet entered a plea.
