Darragh Ennis Reveals Dynamics with Fellow ‘The Chase’ Experts Away From Quiz Show
Darragh Ennis, a prominent quiz expert on ITV’s popular program ‘The Chase’, has offered insights into his relationships with his fellow Chasers when the cameras are off. Ennis, known as ‘The Menace’ on the Bradley Walsh-hosted show, is one of six formidable quizzers, alongside Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha, and Jenny Ryan, who challenge contestants.
Limited Socialising Outside Filming
Despite their on-screen camaraderie, Darragh disclosed that the quizmasters seldom spend time together socially away from the show. Speaking on the ‘Jaack Maate’s Happy Hour’ podcast, he addressed the question of whether the Chasers engage in regular ‘nights out’ together.
In response, Ennis stated, “Not really, no. We all lead very different lives, and in reality, we don’t see each other that much at the studio either.”
“For events like award ceremonies, significant gatherings of that nature, we do socialise as a group. I also attended Jenny Ryan’s birthday celebration a couple of years ago, which was very enjoyable. Furthermore, I was invited to Paul Sinha’s wedding, even before I had joined the show, which was very kind of him.”
Geographical Distance and Life Stages Impact Social Interactions
Elaborating further, he explained, “I reside in Oxford and have young children, while Mark is based further north, or in the Midlands area. We live considerable distances apart. We are colleagues who get along well and communicate through a WhatsApp group, but our socialising is limited.”

Ennis indicated a closer friendship with Jenny Ryan. “We are closer in age; we are among the younger members, in our 40s, whereas others are in their 50s and 60s,” he clarified. “I also feel quite close to Paul; he is a genuinely good person and provided me with significant support.”
“And actually, I spend a fair amount of time with Mark because we often stay overnight in the same hotel during show recordings, and we usually spend time together and have dinner.”
From Contestant to Chaser
Darragh’s journey on ‘The Chase’ began as a participant. In 2017, he notably defeated Paul Sinha during his contestant appearance and received praise for his exceptional quizzing abilities. He later transitioned to the role of a Chaser in 2020.
