Samsung Galaxy S24 Series One UI 7 Update Delayed Due to Bug
Owners of Samsung Galaxy devices awaiting the Android 15-based One UI 7 update are experiencing a delay. The anticipated software upgrade, initially slated for release on older models including the Galaxy S24 series, has been temporarily suspended due to the discovery of a significant issue during its initial rollout. This setback impacts the wider release of One UI 7 beyond the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S25 line.
Unexpected Halt to One UI 7 Rollout
While Samsung typically prioritizes swift Android updates for its flagship devices, diverging from usual timelines, the company chose to debut One UI 7 with the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra in February. These premium Android smartphones were the first from Samsung to feature the new operating system. This contrasted with rivals like Google and OnePlus, who generally release their Android 15 iterations sooner. Google’s Pixel 9, for example, has been running Android 15 since October 2024, and older Pixel models have already received updates to this version.
This altered schedule meant the Galaxy S24 range, released in January 2024, remained without One UI 7 in most regions. However, Samsung had recently announced the rollout of the new software as a free update starting April 7 for the S24, S24 Plus, S24 Ultra, Z Flip 6, and Z Fold 6 models.
However, these plans have encountered an obstacle, leading Samsung to pause the distribution of One UI 7 to older handsets like the Galaxy S24 series.
Official Statement from Samsung
“The One UI 7 rollout schedule is being updated to ensure the best possible experience,” stated a Samsung spokesperson to Express.co.uk. “The revised timing and availability will be communicated shortly.”

Bug Discovery Leads to Suspension
The delay was initially brought to light by tech insider Ice Universe, as reported by The Verge.
According to Ice Universe’s post on X, “After the Korean Galaxy S24 series firmware was released, a critical bug was identified, resulting in the suspension of the update rollout in all other countries, including China.”
In a subsequent X post, Ice Universe elaborated, “The reason for the Galaxy S24 update delay is that users of the official One UI 7 version on the Korean S24 series have reported instances where devices could not be unlocked normally.”
Unlock Issue Identified
This suggests a significant flaw where S24 users experienced device lockouts after installing One UI 7, a particularly severe issue.
Prior to Samsung‘s confirmation of the delay to Express.co.uk, The Verge noted that they had “confirmed that the update is no longer listed on Samsung’s servers as the latest firmware version across several Galaxy devices, with previous patches reappearing instead.”
Potential Processor-Specific Problem
Android Authority suggests the problem may be limited to S24 devices equipped with the Exynos 2400 processor. This is relevant to Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus models sold in the UK, which utilize this Samsung-manufactured chip. In contrast, models in the US and other regions, along with all S24 Ultra models regardless of region, employ the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.
It remains to be seen if Samsung encountered difficulties in developing a stable One UI 7 version for phones using its proprietary processor. Notably, One UI 7 is currently available on the Galaxy S25 series, all variants of which feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, including those in the UK.
Continued Wait for Android 15
For owners of older Samsung smartphones anticipating Android 15, the wait for the operating system upgrade is now extended.
