Steven Tyler’s “Wild” Past: Daughter Mia Tyler Reveals Aerosmith Singer’s Stage Secret

Steven Tyler, the legendary Aerosmith frontman, has always embodied the rock and roll lifestyle. Recently, his daughter, Mia Tyler, shared insights into his “extremely wild” past, disclosing the surprising purpose behind the iconic rock star’s signature scarves draped on his microphone stands during live performances.

Mia Tyler Uncovers Reason Behind Microphone Scarves

Mia Tyler, 46, daughter of the celebrated musician and the younger sibling of actress Liv Tyler, 47, openly discussed her father’s earlier years as a rock icon on a recent episode of the “Sibling Revelry” podcast.

Reflecting on her father’s history, Mia revealed that the decorative scarves were not merely a fashion accessory. She claimed they served a more clandestine function.

Scarves Used to Conceal Drug Use On Stage, Claims Mia Tyler

“The real reason he put scarves on his microphone was to hide his illicit substances,” Mia alleged during the podcast, suggesting, “It allowed him to use them live on stage.”

According to Mia’s assertions, scarves were not the sole method Steven Tyler employed to discreetly conceal items.

Hidden Pockets for On-Stage Consumption

“He even had small pockets sewn into his stage attire,” Mia stated, “so he could easily access and ingest whatever substance he was using while performing.”

Representatives for Aerosmith have been contacted for comment on these claims.

Steven Tyler’s History of Substance Abuse and Relapse

The renowned rocker has a well-documented history of struggles with substance abuse and experienced a relapse nearly three years ago, breaking a decade-long period of sobriety.

In May 2022, Aerosmith publicly announced Steven Tyler’s “voluntary” admission into a rehabilitation facility.

“As many are aware, our cherished brother Steven has dedicated himself to sobriety for numerous years,” the band, including members Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer, and Brad Whitford, stated in a public announcement at the time.

The band explained that a recent foot surgery, in preparation for stage performances, and the subsequent requirement for pain management, precipitated his relapse, leading him to “voluntarily enter a treatment program to concentrate on his health and recovery.”

Tour Postponements and Vocal Injury

This setback occurred as Aerosmith was preparing to relaunch their highly anticipated Las Vegas residency, forcing the band to postpone the initial dates scheduled for June and July 2022.

Steven Tyler has previously spoken candidly about his past drug use.

In a 2019 interview with Haute Living, he admitted that while drug use initially provided a “certain rawness,” it ultimately hindered his potential for “greatness.”

“All the magic you believed was enhanced by being high actually emerges when you achieve sobriety,” the singer revealed, “You realize it was always within you, and your anxieties dissipate.”

Subsequently, in September 2023, Steven Tyler suffered vocal cord damage, resulting in bleeding during an Aerosmith performance in New York.

Consequently, the band was compelled to further postpone their “Peace Out: The Farewell Tour” after discovering their frontman’s injury was “more severe than initially anticipated.”

Aerosmith’s Retirement from Touring

Ultimately, Steven Tyler’s vocal cord injury proved to be a lasting issue, leading Aerosmith to announce their retirement from touring in August 2024.

“We have always aimed to deliver mind-blowing performances. As you know, Steven’s voice is an unparalleled instrument. He has invested months of tireless effort in attempting to restore his voice to its pre-injury condition. We have witnessed his struggles despite having access to the finest medical professionals.”

“Regrettably, it has become evident that a complete recovery from his vocal injury is not feasible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, yet necessary, decision – as a united band – to retire from the touring stage,” Aerosmith’s official statement conveyed.
