Katy Perry Prepares for Blue Origin Space Flight, Cites Longtime Dream
Pop superstar Katy Perry has expressed her excitement regarding her forthcoming journey to space aboard a Blue Origin spacecraft. In a recent interview with Elle magazine, Perry revealed her long-held aspiration for space travel, stating, “I have wanted to go to space for almost 20 years.” The “E.T.” singer shared her proactive approach to realizing this ambition, recounting, “Even when Blue Origin was first talking about commercial travel to space, I was like, ‘Sign me up! I’m first in line.’” Perry is set to join King, Lauren Sánchez, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn on the suborbital flight.
Past Space Travel Interest
Reports from MTV News in 2010 indicate Perry’s early commitment to space tourism. The news outlet detailed Perry’s purchase of a $200,000 ticket for a Virgin Galactic suborbital flight, anticipating the company’s operational launch.
Extraterrestrial Fascination Shared
Around that period, Perry conveyed to the outlet her deep interest in “extraterrestrial stuff.” She elaborated on her sense of cosmic perspective: “It’s very difficult for me to look up into the sky in the middle of the night and not think that our planet is one of…a bajillion. It’s really, really small.” Her fascination with the cosmos was reportedly shared with then-husband Russell Brand, prior to their separation in 2011. At the time, she stated, “Russell and I are interested in anything extraterrestrial. I mean, we’re going to space.”
Anticipation and “Glam” in Orbit
As her 2025 Blue Origin trip nears, Perry, age 40, conveyed to Elle a sense of composed anticipation. “I don’t have any time to be nervous; I ain’t got time to be worried,” she remarked. “I’m going to feel something when they go, ‘10, 9, 8, 7,…’ but until then we’ve got stuff to do. We’ve got business to handle.”
Space to Become “Glamorous”
Perry playfully added a touch of her signature style to the prospect of spaceflight. “Space is going to finally be glam,” she quipped. “Let me tell you something. If I could take glam up with me, I would do that. We are going to put the ‘ass’ in astronaut,” suggesting her intent to bring a sense of style and flair to the astronaut experience.
