WhatsApp Unveils a Slew of New Features Enhancing User Experience

Meta-owned WhatsApp has recently rolled out a significant wave of updates, introducing a host of new features to the popular messaging application. This marks a notable shift for WhatsApp, which, in contrast to recent activity, historically remained largely unchanged for years following its acquisition by Facebook, now Meta. Users on both iPhone and Android platforms are now benefiting from these complimentary enhancements designed to enrich their communication experience.

A new ‘Notify for’ setting empowers users to customize group chat alerts. Selecting ‘Highlights’ will limit notifications to only @mentions, replies, and messages from saved contacts. Alternatively, choosing ‘All’ ensures comprehensive notification delivery.

Expanded Event Functionality

Building upon group event creation, WhatsApp now enables event scheduling within individual chats. Further event options include ‘maybe’ RSVPs, the ability to invite additional guests, setting event end dates and times, and pinning events within the chat for easy access.

Setting WhatsApp as Default Messaging App on iPhone

With the latest iOS update, iPhone users now possess the capability to designate WhatsApp as their primary messaging and calling application. This can be configured within the iPhone settings under Settings > Default Apps and then selecting WhatsApp.

Call Feature Upgrades

Users can now effortlessly add participants to ongoing one-on-one calls directly from a chat. By tapping the call icon at the top of the chat and selecting ‘Add to call,’ users can quickly include others in the conversation.

Improved Video Call Reliability and Quality

WhatsApp has implemented technological upgrades to enhance video call performance. An optimized routing system aims to secure the most stable connection, minimizing call drops and video freezing. Furthermore, improved bandwidth detection intelligently upgrades video quality to HD for a superior experience.

Status and Channels Updates

Video Notes for Channels

Channel administrators can now create and share short-form videos (up to 60 seconds) directly within their channels, similar to video note functionality in chats. This offers a dynamic way to engage with followers.
