The incident, which occurred near Copake, about 50 miles south of Albany, is currently under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Crash Details and Emergency Response
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that the Mitsubishi MU-2B-40 airplane went down in an open field outside of Copake. The Columbia County Sheriffโs Office received multiple 911 calls reporting the fatal crash around noon. Undersheriff Jacqueline Salvatore confirmed at a news conference that deputies were dispatched to the scene of the aviation accident shortly after the calls came in.
Flight Path and Location
Investigators indicated that the aircraft was en route to Columbia County Airport in Hudson, approximately 30 miles from Copake, at the time of the incident.
Salvatore described the crash site as being located “in the middle of a field” with “pretty muddy” conditions, which initially presented challenges for accessibility for first responders and investigators.
