Phil Foden’s Mother Lists Cheshire Home Following Fan Abuse

Claire Rowlands, the mother of Manchester City star Phil Foden, has decided to sell her residence in Prestbury, Cheshire, after experiencing vile abuse from Manchester United supporters. The decision to list the property comes a week after she was subjected to offensive chants during the Manchester derby at Old Trafford. The England midfielder, Phil Foden, was targeted with derogatory slurs directed at his mother during the recent Premier League match.

Abuse at Manchester Derby Prompts Move

During last Sunday’s Premier League fixture at Old Trafford which ended in a 0-0 draw, sections of Manchester United’s fanbase directed abhorrent chants towards Claire Rowlands, 45. The chants, labeling her with offensive terms, were audible before Foden was substituted in the 58th minute of the game.

Prestigious Property on the Market

The opulent home in the upscale village of Prestbury, Cheshire, is now being offered for sale with offers exceeding £3 million. Phil Foden, the Manchester City and England player, originally purchased the residence four years ago for his mother and father, Phil Sr. The 24-year-old footballer later relocated to a separate property nearby with his fiancée, Rebecca Cooke, and their three young children.

Luxury Amenities

The expansive mansion boasts an array of high-end features, including:

  • Swimming pool
  • Private cinema
  • Gymnasium
  • Wine cellar
  • State-of-the-art golf simulator

Past Neighborhood Controversies

Prior to the recent abuse, Rowlands had previously drawn criticism from neighbours due to hosting a large, disruptive fireworks display in her garden. The extensive two-hour event was described by some locals as being comparable in scale to major public displays.

Residents reported receiving no advance notice of the pyrotechnics, which took place between 6 pm and 8:30 pm, causing distress to pets and young children.

One neighbour expressed their frustration, stating, “There was no prior notice or warning, causing immense distress to residents’ dogs and babies.” Another neighbour mentioned that locals penned a formal complaint, “an open letter deploring the antics of the Fodens and the effect it is having on our lives.”

Complaints of Noise and Parties

In July, neighbours had previously described the Manchester City player as “selfish” and appealed to his club to intervene due to disruptive late-night parties at the property. Loud music, described as “booming gangster rap,” allegedly continued until midnight, with complaints also arising about the family’s Doberman guard dog barking throughout the day.

A local resident commented on the fireworks incident and wider issues: “They do throw some wild parties there and it does get noisy. People don’t mind them enjoying themselves, but this is ridiculous. It’s beginning to be known as a party house and there’s always complaints about the noise and loud music!”

Nightclub Incident and Conduct

Separately, Claire Rowlands has faced scrutiny for incidents arising from alcohol consumption. In January 2024, footage emerged of Rowlands being escorted from a nightclub in Wales by police after an altercation involving another patron’s hat.

The incident at Bentley’s nightclub in Towyn, Wales, occurred on September 9, 2023, shortly after Phil Foden played for England in a Euro 2024 qualifier.

Video evidence presented in court showed Rowlands in a confrontation with police officers who were called to the nightclub.

Rowlands questioned the officers, asking, “Go on then, what’ve I done? Don’t come into my face unless you’ve got evidence.”

While cleared of assault, Rowlands was fined for disorderly conduct. She admitted to police, “I do not drink often but when I do, I make up for time. I am like an animal.”

The court heard that Rowlands had been out with friends as a break from caring for her youngest son, who has a disability and requires round-the-clock care.

She explained to the court, “The plan was just to go out, have a laugh, let our hair down and enjoy ourselves. We went to the caravan, had a few cans, washed our hair and got all dressed up.”

“Party Trick” and Aftermath

The group visited a bar on the caravan site, participating in karaoke and socialising. Later, they moved to Sunny’s and then Bentley’s nightclub, where Rowlands admitted to consuming tequila and vodka shots. She was subsequently asked to leave by security staff following an allegation of assault.

CCTV footage shown to magistrates depicted Rowlands removing a baseball cap from Paul Shortman’s head before attempting to place it back on him.

Rowlands maintained in court that she was merely having “a bit of fun” and had no intention to harm the man when she touched his hat.

She stated, “I was drunk. It was just a bit of fun, a bit of banter. I just could not believe it, that I could get into trouble for knocking someone’s cap off. It’s my party trick, knocking someone’s cap off and putting it back on. I did not mean him any harm or to hurt him and you can see that on the video. It was just a bit of banter which has been taken the wrong way.”

Previous Attack at Boxing Match

Two years prior, Rowlands was assaulted at a boxing event between Kell Brook and Amir Khan. This incident, described as “shocking and appalling” by Manchester City, involved social media footage showing an assailant punching Foden’s mother backstage at Manchester’s AO Arena after the footballer was verbally abused in a corridor.

Family Support

Despite these incidents, sources close to Phil Foden emphasize his strong bond with his family. A source told MailOnline, “Phil is very close to his family, particularly his parents. They, along with Rebecca, have been a constant source of support for Ronnie when he has felt the pressure and when things have got tough.”
