Raj Bisram of ‘The Chase’ Makes Lighthearted Jab at Liz Truss During Celebrity Special
During a recent celebrity edition of ITV’s popular quiz show, The Chase, antiques expert Raj Bisram, known for his appearances on “Antiques Road Trip,” managed to deliver a subtle quip directed at former Prime Minister Liz Truss amidst answering general knowledge questions. While participating for a potential prize fund of £45,000, Bisram opted for a more conservative £7,000, guided by his fellow celebrity teammates.
Quiz Question Sparks Political Remark
Bisram successfully navigated a significant portion of the questions posed by host Bradley Walsh. However, one particular query sparked amusement and a political jest. The question presented to the TV personality was: “What song did Liz Truss use for her stage entrance at the 2022 Conservative Party conference?”
Bisram’s Guess and Political Commentary
Selecting “Moving On Up” as his answer, Bisram was correct. He chuckled, admitting it was an educated guess due to a lapse in memory regarding that specific political moment.
Subsequently, Bisram expressed his opinion on Truss, remarking with a playful tone, “I thought they were going down.” He swiftly completed his round, returning to teammates Danielle Harold, John Conteh, and Roger Black with the £7,000 he had secured.

Prior to departing Downing Street, Truss acknowledged that her proposed economic reforms might have been implemented “too rapidly and extensively.” During her brief leadership, she had introduced plans for £45 billion in unfunded tax reductions, which triggered significant instability in international stock markets.
Bisram’s Views on Diversity and Meritocracy
In separate remarks predating his appearance on The Chase Celebrity Special, Raj Bisram has voiced his perspectives on political matters. He conceded that while initiatives focused on diversity have benefited certain minority individuals, they have also potentially disadvantaged others who attained their positions through demonstrable merit.
In an interview with the Telegraph, Bisram stated: “We have this diversity thing now, which isn’t necessarily always good. Some of the other people in the TV world have said ‘he’s only here because he’s dark-skinned.’”
He further elaborated, “That’s wrong, because I have always believed you should only be doing a job on merit. It doesn’t matter who you are, what colour you are. You shouldn’t be doing a job because you tick boxes. It degrades you.”
Experiences of Inequality in the TV Industry
The antiques expert also disclosed that he had to exert “twice as much effort” compared to his white counterparts, both within the television industry and during his service in the armed forces. He added: “I know that I have to put in double the effort so no one has an excuse to get rid of me. People will tell you’re treated exactly the same but you’re not really.”
