An arsonist ignited a fire at the official residence of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro in Harrisburg overnight Sunday, while he and his family were present inside the home. Emergency responders arrived at the governor’s mansion around 2:00 AM following reports of the blaze.
Fire at Governor Shapiro’s Home
According to Harrisburg Fire Chief Brian Enterline, fire crews were promptly dispatched to the residence of the Democratic governor in Harrisburg early Sunday morning.
Fortunately, all occupants of the mansion were in varied locations within the premises when the fire erupted and were able to evacuate to safety. Swift action from Pennsylvania State Police and Capitol Police ensured the family’s secure removal from the property as firefighters tackled the flames.
Extent of the Damage
The fire caused significant damage to a substantial portion of the governor’s estate. The incident occurred mere hours after Governor Shapiro shared a social media post depicting his family observing Passover on Saturday.
Arson Investigation Underway

He stated:
- “Around 2 AM last night, my family and I were awakened by Pennsylvania State Police at our door, alerting us to an arsonist’s fire at the Governor’s Residence in Harrisburg.”
- “The Harrisburg Bureau of Fire responded swiftly, and as they worked to extinguish the fire, we were safely evacuated by Pennsylvania State Police, with assistance from Capitol Police.”
- “Gratefully, no one sustained injuries, and the fire was put out.
