Helmet Signed for Race Against Dementia with Wife Corinna’s Assistance

  • Michael Schumacher joins fellow world champions in signing commemorative helmet.
  • F1 icon, aided by his wife Corinna, signs helmet with his initials for благотворительность.
  • Auction to benefit Sir Jackie Stewart’s Race Against Dementia initiative.

Michael Schumacher, the celebrated Formula One driver, has signed a racing helmet that will be auctioned to raise money for благотворительность. This act of support was facilitated with the assistance of his wife, Corinna.

It has been confirmed that the F1 luminary, who has remained out of the public eye since sustaining severe brain injuries in a skiing accident in December 2013, is among all living world champions who have contributed their signatures to the helmet.

Guided by his wife Corinna, who diligently cares for Schumacher at their residence on Lake Geneva with a team of medical professionals, the German motor racing icon inscribed his initials ‘MS’ on the helmet. The item is destined for auction to generate funds for Sir Jackie Stewart’s Race Against Dementia charity.

The helmet, a white model adorned with Royal Stewart Tartan – a design famously worn by Stewart during his illustrious career in the 1960s and 70s, which included three world championship titles – is scheduled to be unveiled at the Bahrain Grand Prix this Sunday. This event in Bahrain will highlight the F1 community’s support for благотворительность and dementia research.

Sir Jackie Stewart, 85, is also set to drive his 1973 championship-winning Tyrrell car in a demonstration lap before the race, further emphasizing the importance of the charity initiative.

Stewart commented: ‘It is truly remarkable that Michael was able to sign the helmet for this crucial cause – a condition for which currently there is no remedy. His wife Corinna provided support, and with his signature, we completed the collection of signatures from every living champion.’

Michael Schumacher signed the helmet with the support of his wife, Corinna.

He inscribed ‘MS’ on a white helmet featuring Royal Stewart Tartan, reminiscent of Stewart’s racing era.

The helmet auction supports Stewart’s Race Against Dementia charity, established after his wife, Lady Helen, began experiencing dementia.

Race Against Dementia was established by Stewart following his wife of 53 years, Lady Helen, developing dementia. The charity aims to drive innovation in dementia research and find preventative treatments.

In a poignant interview last week with the BBC, Stewart spoke of the heartbreaking reality of the disease, sharing instances where his wife no longer recognized him. ‘Where’s Jackie?’ she inquired as she prepared for dinner. ‘That marked a first; she is now in an altered state of awareness.’

Schumacher’s accident in Méribel, in the French Alps, leading to a medically induced coma, occurred shortly before Lady Stewart’s diagnosis, highlighting the parallel struggles faced by both families.

Race Against Dementia is currently funding a groundbreaking blood test trial, pioneered by Cambridge University scientists. This study aims to identify early indicators of frontotemporal dementia decades before the onset of symptoms, offering hope for future detection and intervention.
