Joan Camprubí Montal, speaking in Spanish, expressed his family’s profound sorrow, reciting the names of all five victims. “We will never forget you,” he declared. “We will keep your smile alive every day of our lives, and I believe that’s the best legacy we can give you.” His words conveyed the deep sense of loss and the commitment to preserving the memory of his loved ones.

Meeting with Mayor Adams and Visiting Crash Site

Mr. Camprubí Montal traveled from Spain to New York City and addressed the media on Saturday. Prior to speaking to reporters, he met with Mayor Eric Adams and laid flowers at the Jersey City crash location, close to where the family of five and their pilot tragically perished in the helicopter crash.

Overwhelmed by Condolences

“This is an exceedingly difficult situation, but we are overwhelmed by the immense outpouring of condolences we’ve received,” Mr. Camprubí Montal stated, expressing gratitude for the support shown to his family during this devastating time. “I want to emphasize that they departed together, they departed without suffering, and they departed with smiles on their faces, and that is of great comfort to us.”

Mayor Adams previously described Thursday’s fatal helicopter crash as an “unspeakable” tragedy, reflecting the city’s sorrow over the devastating event.

Victims Identified in Fatal Helicopter Crash

The victims of Thursday’s fatal helicopter crash were identified as Mercè Camprubí Montal, her husband, Agustin Escobar, and their three children: Augustin, 10; Mercedes, 8; and Victor, 4. Sean Johnson, 36, the helicopter pilot and a Navy veteran, also died in the crash.
