Yellowjackets Season 3 Closes with Shocking Twists and Turns
The latest season of “Yellowjackets” delivered a dramatic and intense viewing experience to audiences, packed with unanticipated plot developments, acts of violence, and perilous characters.
Ashley Sutton on Hanna’s Fate and Season Finale Surprises
The publication interviewed Ashley Sutton, a new cast member this season portraying Hanna – the amphibian biologist who becomes a captive following an encounter with the stranded “Yellowjackets” team. Sutton discussed the stunning conclusion of the season and provided insights into the series’ future.
Hanna’s initial innocence took a sharp turn when she made a decisive move impacting her destiny. In Episode 9, to demonstrate allegiance to the starving soccer team, she fatally stabbed her colleague (Joel McHale).
Spoiler Alert: Season 3 Finale Details Ahead
The season’s final episode definitively resolved the question of who was responsible for the demise of Adult Lottie (Simone Kessell). The perpetrator was revealed to be an unexpected individual.
Adult Shauna, portrayed by Melanie Lynskey, returned to her residence only to find it deserted. Her spouse, Jeff (Warren Kole), and daughter, Callie (Sarah Desjardins), had vanished without a trace.

Suspecting her fellow “Yellowjackets” survivor, adult Misty (Christina Ricci), was involved, Shauna confronted her. However, she was met with a horrifying revelation.
The Unlikely Culprit in Lottie’s Death
Callie was responsible for Lottie’s fatal fall down the staircase. This action was triggered after the wilderness leader declared Callie to be a consequence of their traumatic period stranded in the woods.
Upon learning this information, viewers witnessed a more ominous aspect of adult Shauna, as the mother appeared to embrace her darker nature after discovering her daughter’s deadly act.
Heartbreaking Loss and Sinister Choices for Taissa
Viewers also observed a similar transformation in adult Taissa, known as Tai (Tawny Cypress). After Adult Melissa (Hilary Swank) fatally stabbed Van (Lauren Ambrose), Tai reacted in a shocking manner. Taking Van’s lifeless body into the woods, ostensibly to bury her, Tai engaged in an act of cannibalism, consuming her longtime partner’s heart.
Teen “Yellowjackets” Face Brutality and Desperate Measures
The teenage counterparts of the group, still trapped in the wilderness, also faced harsh realities.
They brutally eliminated teen Mari (Alexa Barajas) after hunting her in the forest. Hanna (Sutton) became crucial to the “Yellowjackets'” potential for rescue.
In the finale, the teenagers plotted to deceive teen Shauna (Sophie Nelisse) after she prohibited them from utilizing the newly discovered transponder for assistance. They devised a scheme, disguising Hanna as teen Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) while the actual Nat ascended a mountain peak to attempt external communication.
Finale’s Cliffhanger and Sutton’s Surprise
The finale concluded at this point, aptly named “Full Circle.”
In an interview, Sutton revealed to the publication that she was equally surprised to learn that her character was not the one meeting a grim end in the finale, despite seeming like an obvious target.
“I anticipated I would be pit girl, or as I’ve been referring to her, upside down naked girl,” she admitted, alluding to the scene where teen Mari’s remains are extracted from the pit trap and prepared for consumption.
“And then, Episode 10 reveals that I actually play a role in rescuing everyone,” she added, indicating her belief that her character “wholeheartedly desires for everyone to return home.”
Sutton’s Favorite Scene and Season 4 Hopes
Although Sutton’s character experienced numerous notable moments throughout the season, including taking a life, the actress conveyed to the publication that her scene with Natalie was “my most cherished scene to film.”
As of this report, neither Showtime nor Paramount+ have officially confirmed a “Yellowjackets” Season 4. Sutton expressed her personal hope as a fan for a renewal of the series.
“As a viewer, I genuinely want them to renew it because I need to know how it concludes. I need to understand. I need to know who is orchestrating all of this. Or if it’s something mysterious… I need to know,” she responded regarding the unresolved plot threads that viewers are eagerly anticipating. “I need the resolution. I lack the answers, and I’m hoping for a pickup.”
The actress also highlighted the audience’s need to witness the survivors’ return home and their efforts to readjust to normal life following the extraordinary and horrific actions they undertook to survive over 19 months in the wilderness post-plane crash.
Gratitude and Future of “Yellowjackets”
Sutton also conveyed her deep appreciation for her fellow actors and production team for their warm welcome.
“I genuinely admire her immensely. And I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to portray her and for the exceptionally welcoming nature of the cast and crew,” she shared concerning her role as Hanna. “It felt incredibly secure. It felt like home, and I aspire for us to have the chance to do [it again].”
Viewers share this sentiment, and the prospect remains positive.
“Yellowjackets” co-creator Ashley Lyle indicated that she, along with the other showrunners (her spouse, Bart Nickerson, and Jonathan Lisco), initially envisioned the series spanning approximately five seasons.
“The initial concept involved around five seasons, and we feel we are still progressing according to that plan,” she stated to Entertainment Weekly in March 2023. “Thus far, we have remained largely consistent with our plan.” Nevertheless, the entertainment industry is subject to significant shifts over time.
The “Yellowjackets” Season 3 finale became available for streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime starting Friday at 3 a.m. ET.
