Brussels, Belgium – Ukraine’s international partners have committed €21 billion ($23.8 billion) in military assistance, underscoring continued support as the nation defends itself against Russian aggression. The significant pledge was announced by UK Defence Secretary John Healey on Friday, marking a substantial commitment to bolstering Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

Significant Financial Support Announced at Brussels Meeting

Acting German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius expressed his appreciation for the global response, stating, “I’m impressed and grateful for the announcements and pledges, for the support packages from partners around the world.”

International Coordination for Sustained Aid

The announcement followed a high-level international meeting held at NATO headquarters in Brussels. The meeting, co-chaired by the British and German defence ministers, aimed to coordinate ongoing military aid for Ukraine.

Aid to Impact Battlefield Situation in 2023

Minister Pistorius emphasized the immediate impact of this financial injection, noting, “This will have an impact on the battlefield for sure already this year.”

Commitment to Long-Term Support for Ukraine

Acknowledging the challenging security situation, Pistorius stated, “Peace in Ukraine appears to be out of reach in the immediate future.” He reaffirmed the collective commitment to providing sustained military support, adding, “We will ensure that Ukraine continues to benefit from our joint military support. Russia needs to understand that Ukraine is able to go on fighting and we will support it.”
