Italian Beachgoers Must Now Reserve Access Via App
A breathtaking Italian beach, renowned for its immaculate white sands and pristine turquoise waters, will institute mandatory reservations via a mobile application for visitors this summer. Tuerredda Beach, a celebrated coastal destination situated on Sardinia’s southern shore near Teulada, is a highly sought-after locale for both residents and global travellers alike. This new digital initiative aims to better manage visitor flow to the popular Sardinian coast.
Efforts to Manage Tourist Influx at Tuerredda Beach
Responding to escalating tourist numbers in recent years, local authorities have implemented caps on visitor admittance to safeguard the cherished beach environment. Since 2020, daily access to Tuerredda Beach has been restricted to a maximum of 1,100 individuals. This latest digital solution represents a further step to alleviate pressure on local infrastructure and resources.
App Details and Reservation Procedures Forthcoming
Additional details concerning the specific application and the reservation process are expected to be disclosed as the implementation date approaches. Currently, booking functionalities are exclusively available for beachside establishments. Reports indicate that advance reservations for the public, free-access section of the beach are not yet possible.
Local Mayors Address Overtourism Challenges
Angelo Milia, the mayor of Teulada, participated in a summit meeting in Amalfi last week, convening 25 tourist-dependent towns to address shared concerns. Speaking to local news outlets, Mayor Milia stated, “We are aiming to launch the new system as early as July.”
The assembly included mayors from prominent tourist hotspots such as Capri, Positano, Cinque Terre, Courmayeur, and Taormina. Discussions centred on the intensifying issue of overtourism. Taormina, in particular, has experienced a surge in visitor numbers following its feature in the second season of the television program “White Lotus.”

Seeking Solutions for Sustainable Tourism
The assembled mayors collectively voiced a desire for increased autonomy in managing tourist access during peak seasons. Their proposals included greater latitude to implement tourist taxes and enhanced involvement in the coordination of trains, ferries, and other public transportation networks, as reported by The Telegraph.
A prevalent sentiment of dissatisfaction was expressed regarding the perceived sluggishness of the Italian national government in addressing the challenges of overcrowding in tourist destinations.
Italy Grapples with Nationwide Overtourism
Italy has been actively confronting the complexities of overtourism, prompting numerous cities to introduce measures designed to conserve their rich cultural heritage and enhance the quality of life for their permanent residents. Last year, Venice pioneered a €5 entry charge for day visitors during peak periods. In 2025, this fee is set to double to €10 for tourists booking less than four days in advance. This expanded fee will be applicable on 54 high-traffic days, a significant increase from 29 days in 2024. Exemptions from the Venice entry fee include overnight guests, local inhabitants, students, and immediate family members of residents.
