Day Leads Aussie Charge in Masters Opening Round
An understated yet impressive opening round from Jason Day shone as the highlight for the Australian contingent on the first day of the 2025 Masters Tournament.
While English player Justin Rose excelled and world number two Rory McIlroy faltered at Augusta National, the shadow of defending champion Scottie Scheffler looms large.
Day, seeking redemption after relinquishing a late lead and the coveted green jacket to compatriot Adam Scott twelve years prior, displayed remarkable accuracy, achieving a bogey-free round of two-under 70.
Lee and Smith Close Behind
Rising talent Min Woo Lee and the ever-resourceful Cameron Smith, both carding a one-under 71, have also put themselves in contention after the first day. However, Cameron Davis (74) and Scott (77) faced setbacks and dropped down the leaderboard.

Lee Combines Grit and Brilliance
Lee (71) displayed a blend of resilience and skill in his first appearance since securing his maiden PGA Tour victory in Houston. His birdie attempt on the final hole narrowly missed, resulting in him matching Smith’s one-under score.
Day commented to reporters that he feels ‘comfortable with his current form,’ while acknowledging the need to improve his putting performance, expressing hope that ‘more putts drop’ in the subsequent rounds.
