Netflix to Introduce Advanced Search Feature Powered by OpenAI

Netflix is set to launch a novel search engine that will enable subscribers to discover content using highly specific criteria, including mood-based searches. According to reports, this innovative, OpenAI-driven search functionality will permit users to formulate queries that extend significantly beyond conventional parameters like genres or actor names, marking a substantial leap forward in content discovery on the platform.

Initial Rollout and Availability

This optional feature is currently accessible to a limited group of users in Australia and New Zealand, exclusively on iOS devices, as part of an initial testing phase.

Confirmation from Netflix

Netflix representative MoMo Zhou has verified the accuracy of recent reports concerning the new search capability. Zhou indicated that the trial phase is slated to broaden to the United States “in the coming weeks and months.” Presently, there are no confirmed plans to extend the feature beyond the iOS platform.

Beta Phase and User Feedback

“These are preliminary stages for this function, and we are intensely focused on a phase of learning and listening throughout this beta period,” Zhou stated, emphasizing the developmental nature of the feature and the importance of user input during this trial.

Netflix’s History with AI

This move toward AI-enhanced search builds upon Netflix’s established utilization of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies. In a prior discussion, Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters highlighted the company’s long-standing integration of these technologies.
