Pop Star Katy Perry Prepares Psychologically for Blue Origin Spaceflight

Renowned pop icon Katy Perry has shared details of her mental preparation ahead of her upcoming journey to space aboard a Blue Origin spacecraft. The celebrated singer, known for her futuristic performances, is reportedly employing motivational self-talk, immersing herself in astrophysics literature, and focusing on her inner strength as she gears up for the space tourism endeavor.

Historic All-Female Space Mission

Perry is scheduled to participate in a groundbreaking spaceflight on Monday. This mission is poised to be a historic event as the first all-female crewed space voyage since 1963. Joining Perry on this unique trip are Lauren Sánchez, fiancée of Jeff Bezos, veteran journalist Gayle King, and three other accomplished women.

Mental Fortitude and Inspiration

In a recent interview with the Associated Press at her rehearsal space in Ontario, California, Perry discussed her psychological approach. She stated, “I am affirming daily, ‘You are courageous, you are bold, and you are undertaking this to inspire future generations, particularly young girls, to dream of space travel without limits.'”

The “Roar” vocalist also indicated that her preparation includes studying works by the esteemed Carl Sagan and other prominent scientists to mentally prepare for the space excursion.

Embracing STEM and Inner Strength

Perry conveyed her enthusiasm for the engineering aspects of the mission. “I am genuinely fascinated by the engineering intricacies involved. I’m eager to expand my understanding of STEM fields and the mathematical precision required to achieve such a feat,” she explained.

vCard QR Code

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

Furthermore, she elaborated on drawing strength from within when facing new challenges. “I access my feminine power, something I inherently possess and which intensified profoundly after becoming a mother to my daughter. Motherhood significantly amplified that inner fortitude,” Perry added.

Inspiration from Sagan and Astrophysics

Referencing her 2010 hit song “E.T.,” which playfully explores romance with an extraterrestrial, Perry noted her interest in the work of Carl Sagan, a pioneering astrophysicist known for his research into the possibility of extraterrestrial life. She told AP, “I’ve been listening to Carl Sagan’s ‘Cosmos’ and exploring books on string theory. Astrophysics and astronomy, along with astrology and the stars, have always captivated me.”

She further reflected on humanity’s cosmic origins, stating, “We are all composed of stardust, and our origins are intertwined with the stars.”

Crew Composition and Gratitude

Blue Origin, the space company founded by Bezos, revealed the mission’s crew in February. Sánchez personally selected the women who will accompany her on the brief, approximately 11-minute spaceflight. The diverse crew includes former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights advocate Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.

Perry expressed her enthusiasm for the team, remarking, “I feel incredibly grateful, grounded, and honored to be invited and to share this experience with this exceptional group of women.”

Olivia Munn’s Skepticism

Not all reactions to the mission have been positive. Hollywood actress Olivia Munn voiced her skepticism during a recent appearance on “Today With Jenna And Friends.”

Munn initially reacted to the group’s Elle magazine cover, questioning the purpose of the spaceflight. She remarked, “What exactly are they doing? Why? You know what I mean?” which drew laughter from the studio audience.

Munn continued, “I realize this might be unpopular to say, but there are numerous pressing issues in the world right now that seem more critical.”

Cost and Practicality Concerns

Munn further questioned the activities planned in space and drew a comparison to a theme park ride, given the short duration of the flight. Co-host Jenna Hager clarified the 11-minute flight length, prompting Munn’s amusement and comparison to a “Disneyland ride.”

Expressing further reservations, Munn stated, “It’s just a staggering amount of money to venture into space. Many people struggle to afford basic necessities like eggs.”

Hager mentioned that the crew would be traveling to space “in glam,” including hair, makeup, and eyelash extensions, which further bewildered Munn. “They announced that publicly?” she questioned, seemingly incredulous about the focus on aesthetics for a space mission.

Historic Significance vs. Perceived Gluttony

Munn questioned the historic importance, asking, “Is it truly historic to take a ride and showcase it on Elle Magazine? It feels somewhat extravagant.” She further elaborated, “Space exploration traditionally aimed to expand knowledge and benefit humanity. What tangible improvements for us on Earth will result from this endeavor?”

Acknowledging Munn’s point, Hager responded, “That, I don’t know.” Munn continued, “And the environmental impact of rocket fuel – are we considering the resources expended?”

Munn humorously fixated on the cosmetic aspects, particularly eyelash extensions in space conditions. Hager joked, “Yes, and the amount of eyelash adhesive required to secure those in place. That’s what occupies my thoughts.”

Blue Origin NS-31 Mission Details

Blue Origin Flight NS-31 marks the first all-female space crewed launch since Valentina Tereshkova’s solo mission in 1963. The autonomous rocket will provide approximately four minutes of weightlessness before returning to Earth.

This launch is part of Blue Origin’s New Shepard program, scheduled to lift off from West Texas on April 14 at 8:30 a.m. CDT / 13:30 UTC.
