Leading Irish trainer Willie Mullins has entered six contenders for this year’s prestigious Scottish Grand National at Ayr Racecourse. Mullins is heavily focused on retaining his British Trainers’ Championship title. His recent Grand National victories significantly narrowed the gap with rival trainer Dan Skelton. Among his six entries for Saturday’s Scottish Grand National is last year’s victor, Macdermott. Ridden by Danny Mullins, the six-year-old demonstrated staying power to secure victory by a narrow margin at 18/1. Consequently, Macdermott’s handicap weight has been increased to 11st 6lbs as he aims to defend his title.
Chosen Witness: Market Favourite
Chosen Witness is considered Mullins’ strongest contender in betting markets, now priced at 5/1 following declarations. Despite unseating jockey Paul Townend at Navan in February, the gelding is expected to benefit from the extended distance and may be favourably handicapped.
