Delayed Launch and Phased Release

This preview deployment suggests that Microsoft is approaching a broader launch of Recall. Originally slated to debut alongside Copilot Plus PCs last June, the release encountered delays following security concerns raised by experts. A subsequent target launch in October was also postponed as the company prioritized delivering a secure and dependable user experience.

Previous Preview Stages

Microsoft had previously released an initial preview of Recall to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel for Qualcomm Copilot Plus PCs in November. Shortly after, a preview version was also made accessible for Intel and AMD-powered Copilot Plus PCs. Early feedback from testing indicated that Recall was both intriguing and functionally robust, despite raising privacy considerations.

User Opt-in and Control

The recent blog post emphasizes that participation in saving snapshots with Recall is strictly opt-in, ensuring users must explicitly choose to enable the feature. Furthermore, users retain the ability to pause the snapshot saving process at any point, offering ongoing control over data capture.
