Balatro Wins Best Debut Game; Acceptance Speech in Clown Attire
In the category of Best Debut Game, the innovative roguelike poker title Balatro clinched the prize. Representing the notoriously private developer LocalThunk, actor Ben Starr, famed for his role as Clive in Final Fantasy XVI, accepted the award in memorable fashion. Starr, donning full clown regalia, delivered a humorous acceptance speech, playfully referencing the developer’s newfound success and urging the audience to explore more indie video games, specifically highlighting Animal Well.
