Following the conclusion of The White Lotus season, the film review website Letterboxd released an interview from 2023 where Posey shared her most cherished movies.

Opening Night (1977)

John Cassavetes’ Opening Night claimed the top spot on her list. This 1977 picture has achieved widespread acclaim from critics and audiences, evidenced by its impressive 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

This notable psychological drama centres on a stage actress battling alcoholism and emotional turmoil in the days leading up to a crucial play premiere. Currently, Opening Night is not available for streaming in the UK.

The Shining (1980)

Posey also highlighted another influential motion picture, stating, “I’d say The Shining is probably one of my – it’s really up there.”

Grey Gardens (1975)

“I’m also a big documentary enthusiast, like Grey Gardens is one of my favourite movies,” Posey added.

Another release from the 1970s, this documentary provides an intimate look into the everyday lives of Edie Bouvier Beale and her mother, Edith, relatives of former First Lady Jackie Kennedy.

Despite its seemingly simple premise, the film has garnered significant praise over the years, earning a remarkable 94% score from Rotten Tomatoes critics.

Close-Up (1990)

Although initially requested to name only four films, the actress was keen to include one more. “[There’s] This [Abbas] Kiarostami movie called Close-Up I love a lot,” she mentioned.

Based on actual events, this drama recounts the story of a man who impersonated Iranian filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf to gain entry into a wealthy family’s home under the pretence of casting them in his forthcoming film. Close-Up is also not currently available for streaming in the UK.
