Initial reports suggested Dotel was rescued alive from the Jet Set nightclub located in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic’s capital. However, according to accounts from MLB reporter Hector Gomez, he succumbed to his injuries en route to a medical facility.

After being traded from the Mets to the Houston Astros in the Mike Hampton trade following the 1999 season, Dotel spent more than four seasons in Houston. He was subsequently traded to the Oakland Athletics during the 2004 season.
The right-handed pitcher later signed with the Yankees in 2006, achieving a 10.80 ERA in 14 appearances for the team.
His extensive MLB career also encompassed periods with the Royals, Braves, White Sox, Pirates, Dodgers, Rockies, Blue Jays, and Tigers.
