The upcoming cinematic release of Downton Abbey 3 this September will mark a significant moment for the beloved period drama franchise, as it represents the first film installment without the esteemed Dame Maggie Smith. Honoring Violet Crawley’s Legacy
The actress garnered further acclaim for her portrayal of Downton Abbey’s formidable matriarch, Violet Crawley, from 2010 to 2015.
While refraining from divulging any plot details, Paul admitted his surprise at being invited back by the film’s producers.
He commented, “The surprising aspect for me was that they even approached me at all because I felt, ‘My character isn’t central to this narrative.'”
“However, it turns out my character assumes a notably significant role. He undertakes something truly consequential in the movie.”
“I thought it quite humorous that they brought me back specifically to execute this very important, pivotal action.”
Returning Cast and Film Speculation
Several beloved cast members are set to reprise their roles in the film, including Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, and Michelle Dockery.
Currently, specific plot details regarding the new film are being kept confidential, though speculation suggests it will proceed from the storyline established in the second film, A New Era (2022).
It is also anticipated that the film will incorporate a homage to Dame Maggie, following the passing of her character, Lady Violet, in A New Era.
